Scion NAIAS Presence Will Not Include Any Premieres

Scion will be attending the 2016 NAIAS with no less than 11 vehicles, but none of them are new.

Among the cars to be displayed in Detroit next week at Scion’s stand include iM, the iA, the sC and the C-HR Concept, which was shown a couple of months ago at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The study is not exactly new as it was originally brought to the 2014 Paris Motor Show, as a Toyota, and also to last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show in a revised form, but it might be just what the company’s needs in terms of compact crossovers, meaning a rival for the Honda HR-V and Mazda CX-3, among others.

The Scion C-HR Concept targets “young urban creatives” or “yuccies“, who want “distinctive, sophisticated, passionate and clean” vehicles, according to the brand, which plans to introduce a production version later this year.

Scion’s FR-S Releases Series 2.0 will make an appearance in Detroit as well, despite not being brand new either, as it was shown last October. The limited edition has a Lunar Storm exterior finish, 17-inch forged alloy wheels, camel-colored accents inside, black Alcantara and leather-wrapped seats. Just 1,000 units are available and, like the standard version, the FR-S Release 2.0 can be had with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission, priced from $29,510 and $30,610, respectively.

Scion’s booth will also host the FR-S that competed in the last year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, designed by Mackin Industries as a special project for SEMA and modified, along with another FR-S, one of nine on the North American leg of Toyota’s Ever-Better Expedition, a 110-day transcontinental journey that took the company’s members to the road, last summer.
