In what can only be described as a freak accident, a BMW i8 was rolled over by a cement mixer truck in Newport Beach, California this morning, yet amazingly, no one was killed.

Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Larry Kurtz told the LA Times that a 40-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman were transported to the hospital with “moderate injuries”, while a 50 year-old man was initially taken to the hospital in “critical condition, but he has since improved”.

According to authorities, the accident happened Thursday morning at around 8:40 a.m. when a gardening truck collided with a cement truck, which then tipped over onto an offramp, crushing the BMW i8 hybrid sports car.

Given the circumstances and keeping in mind that these pictures were taken after the firefighters extracted the passengers out of the car – most likely cutting into it, the carbon-fiber bodied i8 seems to have held pretty well.
