Chevrolet Launches Essentia Sedan And Beat Activ Concepts In India

Chevy’s initiative to crack the Indian market is going ahead with the unveiling of two new concepts at New Delhi’s Auto Expo.

The Chevrolet Essentia is a sub-compact entry-level sedan and the production-spec model is tipped to remain almost identical bar some small interior and exterior modifications.

It is built on the same platform as the Beat, but ditching the hatchback design for notchy sedan styling with a short rear decklid, prominent wheel arches and a stumpy front fascia.

Standard equipment will include ABS, a rear-view camera, dual air bags and an infotainment system incorporating Apple CarPlay and Android Auto – no word on powertrains or trim levels yet, though.

The Beat Activ Activ has been designed as an “off-road” variant of the affordable hatch. The concept as black bumpers and side skirts, widened wheel arches, roof rails and a playful lime green paint scheme with a distinct black and silver livery. While no specs about it have been released either, it won’t be long before it rolls of the production line.

According to president and managing director of GM India Kasher Kazem, “The Essentia and Beat Activ were created in direct response to the growing Indian market and signal Chevrolet’s commitment to the maturing Indian A-segment market. Both evolutions of the proven Beat platform, these two important vehicles give us the opportunity to speak to a wider audience.”
