EPA Reportedly Wants VW To Build EVs In US To Make Up For Rigged Diesels

The US Environmental Protection Agency has asked VW to build electric vehicles in their Chattanooga plant as a way of making up for their emission-cheating diesel models, according to a report.

German newspaper Welt am Sonntag reports that the EPA not only asked VW to produce EVs in their US plant but also to help build a charging infrastructure in the United States.

The report doesn’t specify if EPA’s request is for VW to build new electric models or electric versions of existing ones.

VW is still struggling to come up with a solution for the rigged diesel vehicles in the US as talks with the EPA are ongoing. The German manufacturer has already started recalling the affected models in Europe, after coming up with a software fix.

The biggest European car maker has to agree on a solution for the almost 600,000 affected US diesel models with the EPA as the number of legal claims against them is growing.
