Following the release of a promising teaser image, Mahindra’s new SUV has been officially unveiled at New Delhi’s Auto Expo by Pininfarina’s new owner.

While the XUV Aero displayed is a concept, it does preview a potential sporty crossover from the Indian automaker and actually has some pretty impressive performance figures.

Power is provided by a turbocharged four-cylinder delivering a total of 210 hp. While few details about the powertrain have been released, the XUV Aero accelerates to 96 km/h (60 mph) in less than six seconds, putting it up there with select BMW X3/X4 and Audi Q5 models in terms of performance. It also features an adjustable suspension with four different modes.

Design wise, the concept includes large, angular LED headlights, sharp air intakes and blacked out upper and lower front grilles, flared wheel arches, a hood incorporating eye-catching air extractors and massive side windows thanks to the relatively small doors. Other key styling elements include a bold rear diffuser, aggressive tailpipes and red brake calipers.

The cabin has leather seats, a three-spoke sports steering wheel, carbon fiber accents as well as a digital instrument cluster.

While it is too early to know how much a production-spec version will cost, it’ll definitely be much cheaper than European alternatives, which is also going to be another big selling point.
