Mercedes Sprinter Gets Entry-Level And Hardcore Models

Two new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter versions are on display at the Chicago Auto Show – and they couldn’t be any more different.

The first, dubbed the Sprinter Extreme Concept, has been created has an apocalyptic off-roader and transporter while the second is an all-new entry-level variant of the famed van that costs $4,000 less than the previous base model.

It was created in collaboration with RENNtech and, beyond the Jurassic Park-themed paint, has a distinctive roof rack, six large spotlights, custom wheels, a skid plate up front and an electric winch.

The road-going one, the Sprinter Worker, comes only in white and can be underpinned by either the 2500 or 3500 chassis. The van also comes complete with simple black steel wheels and an spartan interior incorporating shaded plastics, a 4-speaker audio system, power windows and air-conditioning.

Providing the get-up-and-go for the affordable model is a 2.1-liter turbocharged four-cylinder diesel producing 161 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque and paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission.
