New 1.5-liter Petrol And Diesel Engines For VW?

Amid the Dieselgate scandal that affected millions of cars worldwide, Volkswagen plans to roll out a new engine.

The powertrain, which is believed to have a displacement of 1.5 liters, will be offered in the TSI petrol and TDI diesel versions and, as AutoExpress reports, quoting “a high-level VW source“, will replace the current 1.4-liter and 1.6-liter units, .

Cars like the VW Golf, Skoda Octavia and Audi A3 will reportedly be among the first to get the new units: “The installation of the engine in cars like the Golf and A3 is very straightforward. The engines are all new but their dimensions are similar to what we currently use, so they can slot into existing cars or facelifts“, said the VW Group insider without disclosing any specs.

The current, seventh-gen Golf is unlikely to gain the new mill as its successor is still two years away. Apart from the new 1.5-liter petrol and diesel engines, the next Golf is also believed to shed between 35 and 70kg (77-154lbs) from its total weight while retaining its size.
