Next Audi A5 Coupe To Go On Sale In 2017

Audi is expected to complete development of the next A5 Coupe in 2017, when the MLB platform-based model will make its official debut.

The car that will take on BMW’s 4-Series Coupe and Mercedes-Benz’s C-Class Coupe will reportedly lengthen its wheelbase, which will translate into more cabin space. The platform is also believed to help shed around 100kg (220lbs) from its total weight, which together with the five-link suspension setup from the A4 will help improve its handling and make it more agile.

Autocar reports that power will come from the new A4’s lineup and will include four-cylinder petrols, 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter diesels as well as the V6 range. The RS4 range-topper should drop the naturally aspirated V8 in favor of a new twin-turbo V6, with around 500hp, while a plug-in hybrid might join the lineup too, using the same setup as the A3 Sportback e-tron, meaning a 1.4-liter TFSI and an electric motor.

Outside, the 2018 Audi A5 Coupe is said to gain similar lighting units to the new A4, on both ends, while the saloon will heavily inspire its cabin too, which will get the company’s Virtual Cockpit instrument panels.

Audi will reportedly pull the wraps off the new A5 Coupe in the first half of next year and it will be followed by the A5 Cabriolet and A5 Sportback models.
