Just a few days after Audi’s next TT RS Coupe was nabbed in its birthday suit filling up at a gas station in Spain, the Roadster model was scooped testing under wraps at the Nürburgring race track.

The TT RS Coupe transforms into a cabriolet with an electrically operated canvas top retaining the same internals, but gains a few pounds in the process due the structural reinforcements required to compensate for the lack of a fixed roof.

The latest reports lean towards the use of the same 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder powertrain as the latest RS3 super hatch, likely tuned to squeeze close to 400 horses to increase the distance between the TT RS and the 306hp (310PS) 2.0-liter four-pot TT S.

A rear-biased version of Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system paired to a standard six-speed stick shift or an optional dual-clutch automatic transmission should help it jump off the starting line to 100km/h (62mph) in just under 4 seconds.

The bigger wheels behind which lurk beefy brake discs are one of the first giveaways for both RS models, with the two cars also gaining a different ‘single frame’ front grille with a honeycomb insert flanked by larger air vents on both corners of the reworked bumper, side skirts, a rear diffuser housing RS-spec oval tailpipes and OLED taillights. What the Roadster doesn’t get from the coupe is the fixed rear wing.

The TT RS Coupe and Roadster models should be revealed simultaneously before the end of the year.
