Next-Gen Renault Clio Could Get Hybrid Tech From New Scenic

While the Clio III had a lifespan of 9 years, the current model has been around for just 4 and it served as a basis for the company’s new design language that can be seen on the brand’s newer vehicles.

Despite the fact that it will probably remain in production in its current shape for years to come, AutoExpress reports that its successor will sport the hybrid technology from the new Scenic, without actually becoming a PHEV, in an attempt to make electrification affordable.

“We want to add electrification that’s affordable. It means we give the customer just enough to deliver low CO2“, Renault’s Executive Vice President, Bruno Ancelin, said.

When asked if the Hybrid Assist function from the new MPV could be adopted on the Clio, the official added: “Yes, we’ll consider the tech for other cars. It’s not the only initiative to reduce fuel consumption, but it won’t be a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.”

Not much is known on the Renault Clio Mk5 at the moment except that it may adopt some “nuts and bolts” from the EOLAB Concept, while the facelifted version of the supermini will bring the usual exterior tweaks and some interior revisions.
