Renault Twizy 40 Arrives In Canada; Would You Buy One?

Having been certified by Transport Canada, Renault’s Twizy small electric two-seater is now set for release across the country.

It will be sold by the French company’s local partner, AZRA Canada, which is on a “mission to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions“, by developing “urban electric transport solutions” and “installing charging infrastructures“.

The Canadian Renault Twizy 40 that can achieve a top speed of 40 km/h (25 mph), comes under the Canadian category of low-speed vehicles (four-wheel EVs with top speed from 32 to 40 km/h – 20 to 25 mph), and is equipped with a type-1 charging cable and side reflectors.

No other details are offered about the electric car, except that it will go on sale from summer in Canada at an as of yet undisclosed price.

One would assume that, unlike the European model that comes with optional heater, doors and windows, these should be offered standard in Canada for any brave souls who wish to use their Twizys all year round. In Germany, the base Twizy 45 Life, starts at just under €7,000 (equal to US$7,890)

i was excited about this until i read that speed is limited to 40kph. where on earth can i drive in the GTA at 40 or under?

There will be a Twizy 80 version that can do 80 km/h beside the Twizy 40. It isn’t going to be cheap though.

bwhahahaha – 40kms – well – that’s rockin’ if you have the pokemon go app running while you drive around! (ha found a candy – found a candy – found candy)

The 80 is what I’d want. (why would they even bother importing the 40?)

It’ll still move faster than the TTC…

It’s a nice “car”, but it’s way too expensive for what it is. It’s useful if you use it for short distances in towns and cities, but so is a €200 used moped. Or a bike, too.

Great for getting around the inside of my new country place when I get it finished.
    Will never use it outside.

    • FUNNY.

This is really a house that is north of Toronto and is a fixer upper. It much larger than the White House…….ever huuuger than any of Donald J Drumph’s houses

This isn’t a car, it’s a GOLF CART. Many over 55 communities [places for old retired people] as well as ocean side resorts in the USA allow folks to drive golf carts on the street. They cost less money than this thing. So does the nearly identical looking GEM! At Least GEM has a “four door” and a “pick up” model!

Thats right this is golf cart.

In NE Washington state there are many small towns that allow specially licensed 4-wheelers on city streets. Gotta carry insurance like actual automobiles but people up here do find it a cheaper alternative- AND it gets you out where the deer and the antelope roam 😉

Of course, drop a turbo Kawasaki engine in this thing…

  • Twizy?

Twizy? This is polar bear food!
