Seat Ateca Compact SUV Celebrates Global Premiere In Geneva

Seat’s first ever SUV, the Ateca, takes center stage at the firm’s Geneva auto show booth.

The Ateca has an exterior design that stays true to other models in the manufacturer’s lineup, while sharing a similar footprint with the Leon, at 4.36 m long, 1.84 m wide and 1.6 m tall, with a 2.64 m wheelbase and 510 liters of boot space in FWD configuration.

It’s closely related to the new Volkswagen Tiguan, riding on the Group’s MQB platform, and is aimed against other compact SUVs such as the Nissan Qashqai, Renault Kadjar, Mazda CX-5, Ford Kuga and Hyundai ix35.

The Ateca has a large suite of safety and tech features, such as the Traffic Jam Assist, Emergency Assist, ACC with Front Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Traffic Sign Recognition, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Top View Camera.

Seat will launch the compact SUV in Europe this September with prices to star under €20,000 ($21,800 equivalent) in Germany, equipped with a 1.0-liter 3-pot producing 115 PS (113 HP), connected to a standard six-speed manual. The other petrol engine offering at launch will be a 1.4-liter with 150 PS (148 HP), joined by three diesels, a 1.6 TDI 115 PS (113 HP) and a 2.0-liter in two guises delivering 150 PS (148 HP) and 190 PS (187 HP).
