Seat’s first SUV is scheduled to reach dealerships across the United Kingdom this September, but it’s already available for order.

One of its “weapons” against the established competition will be its price tag, which is lower than one of its main rivals, the Nissan Qashqai.

The entry-level Ateca that’s powered a 3-cylinder 1.0-liter TSI petrol engine rated at 113 HP will start from £17,990 while further up the range other powertrains include the 1.4-liter TSI with 148 HP, a 1.6-liter TDI rated at 113 HP and a 2.0-liter TDI in two different outputs, with 148 HP and 187 HP.

All come with front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, while the 7-speed DSG will be offered on the more powerful mills and AWD only on the diesel units.

Named after a village in Spain, the Ateca is underpinned by the MQB platform made by the VW Group and it is just 2 cm shorter than the Qashqai, while sharing the 2.64 m wheelbase with its compact hatch sibling, the Leon.

On a side note, the next-gen if the Ibiza that is expected in 2017 will underpin a subcompact crossover. This will be sized similarly to the Nissan Juke and it’s believed to come in early 2018, possibly followed by a large SUV at the end of the decade.
