Have you ever gazed upon the Honda Civic Type R and thought it was hopelessly impractical? Well you’re certainly not alone.
The boffins at Synchro Motorsport, who describe themselves as “a voluntary team based at Honda’s Factory in Swindon”, agree and decided to transplant the FK2 Civic Type R’s running gear into a Civic Tourer.
The racing outfit went all out on this 2013 Civic wagon, meaning the full-fat 306hp (228kw)and 400Nm (295 lb-ft) 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, six-speed manual gearbox and suspension parts of the storming hot hatch are all carried over.
On the outside, the wagon receives a full Type R front-end and body kit, while a rear diffuser and quad exhuasts are carefully integrated into the Tourer’s derriere.
Finished in sinister matt-black, this car could have easily rolled off the Swindon production line and raises hopes for a combatant in the Golf R wagon class. Sadly, Honda has no plans to bring it to life as a production car at this stage, but stranger things have happened.
In hatchback form, the Civic Type R demolishes the 0-62mph(100km/h) sprint in 5.7-seconds, on its way to a 167mph (270km/h) terminal velocity. It currently holds the record lap time for the Nürburgring Nordschleife at 7 minutes, 50 seconds flat (albeit in prototype form). A wagon Type R could potentially wrest class honors from Seat.
