Toyota Corolla Celebrates 50th Ann. With US-Spec Special Edition

The Corolla has been in production for half a century and, naturally, Toyota wanted to mark this milestone.

The special edition is based on the 2016 MY Corolla SE and adds 17-inch alloy wheels with Dark Gray inserts and Machine finish, LED headlights and 50th Anniversary Edition badging on the exterior that’s available in three colors (Black Cherry, Blizzard Pearl and Classic Silver).

Updates made to the special edition continue in the cabin, where it gets a color 4.2-nch TFT multi-information display, 7-inch high-resolution touchscreen, Entune Audio Plus with Connected Navigation, a sunroof, black interior with Black Cherry contrast stitching on the center armrest, shift boot and steering wheel, black mixed media seats with the same contrast stitching and smart key system with push-button start.

It will be sold exclusively in the United States and be limited to 8,000 units. It will reach the dealerships this fall at a yet announced price.

Wow, Toyota is just incapable of producing an attractive vehicle. They get uglier with each generation! Then they go and spin off a special edition that is especially unattractive.

    • It’s almost like they’re doing it on purpose because no matter what the fuck they do, people will still buy Toyota!

Can they possibly build an uglier car than this??

      yes, Toyota Prius.

toyota..why are you so fucked up in your design dept?? arent you paying them enough?

  • Six_Tymes

tell me that front is a joke right? early April fools maybe?

  • I would be embarrassed to drive something around that ugly, especially if it’s a brand new car.

It is disingenuous for Toyota to claim a 50th anniversary for the “Corolla”. The original one was 2/3rds the size and had RWD with trucklet live rear axle suspension, with a North-South instead of East-West engine mounting. It’s like Ford Focus saying they are having a 56th anniversary, dating back to the 1960 Falcon. Only that would be much closer to the truth.

Compared to a 1966 Corolla, the current Corolla is 30 inches longer, 11 inches wider, and has a 16 inch longer wheelbase. In fact, the 2016 Corolla is almost the same size as the 1960 Falcon, which is somewhat larger than the current Focus and way bigger than the original Corolla. If anything, the current Corolla is the successor to the Falcon, not the original Corolla.

Ford made about the same Model T for 19 years and VW made more or less the same Nazimobile for about a hundred years, and, but those are not the same thing like Toyota likes to pretend.
