Diesel-powered cars from the VW Group aren’t the only ones being prepped for a fix, as the Germans have now issued a recall for the battery-powered e-Golf too.

The electric version of the popular compact has been diagnosed with a battery software problem, which might lead to the motor’s complete shutdown, increasing the risk of a crash.

Oversensitive diagnostics for the high-voltage battery management system may falsely detect an electrical surge resulting in the vehicle’s electric drive motor shutting down unexpectedly“, wrote the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in its recall summary of the problem.

Affected cars are from the 2015-2016 model years, manufactured between May 21, 2014, and March 1, 2016. The fix will consist of the dealers updating the battery management software, free of charge. Owners of the above mentioned examples have been notified by the manufacturer and the recall has begun on March 15.

Volkswagen’s latest safety campaign comes right after the Group missed the initial deadline to come up with a fix for the approximately 580,000 diesel-powered cars that were sold across the United States and fitted with emissions cheating devices. These were found to emit up to 40 times the allowable federal amount of emissions in real world driving.
