The wraps are slowly starting to come off the new E-Class’ long wheelbase variant.
Scooped out in the open, the prototype tries to hide its third window and quarter rear panel, where most of the mods will be visible.
Light vinyl stickers added to the trunk and taillights could suggests some changes made here as well, on top of the already available sedan, while the front fascia should remain identical across the lineup.
Petrol and diesel engines will be shared between the two models, but it’s not known yet whether Mercedes-Benz will offer a range-topping AMG version of the LWB. If it does, it will be powered by the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, which will produce in excess of 600 HP, on the E63 AMG S sedan, allowing it to sprint from naught to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.5 seconds and up to a top speed capped out at 250 km/h (155 mph).
The stretched E-Class will be aimed towards select markets such as China, where it is common for automakers to offer long wheelbase versions of their cars to satisfy demand.
Furthermore, Merc plans to launch the Estate this summer, followed by the Coupe and Convertible versions.
