Honda Clarity To Get Electric And Plug-in Hybrid Versions In 2017

Honda will introduce two new versions of the Clarity, Electric and Plug-In Hybrid, which will go on sale in the US next year.

All three models, including the existing hydrogen-powered model, will be underpinned by the same architecture, making the Clarity the first vehicle in the industry to offer fuel cell, electric and plug-in hybrid technology on a single platform.

This Honda trio of dedicated, advanced technology vehicles, along with the expanded application of two- and three-motor hybrid systems to our core models, represents a strong commitment to Honda’s future and will help create a new volume pillar for electrified vehicle sales“, said the American Honda Executive Vice President, John Mendel.

Following the launch of the hydrogen-powered Clarity, in late 2016, will be the Clarity electric, expected in 2017, while the third vehicle in the series, the Plug-In Hybrid, will hit dealerships in all 50 states later next year, becoming the volume leader, with its gasoline-hybrid powertrain, providing an all-electric driving range in excess of 40 miles (64 km).

All three Clarity versions will have seating for five and will benefit from advanced technologies such as Display Audio with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with standard Honda Sensing safety and driver-assistive tech.

I don’t think Honda could’ve made a worse looking car than the Clarity……just hideous!!!

  • Auf Wiedersehen

Honestly, WHO at Honda thinks this is attractive? Fire them….

The worst thing is that it will be more expensive than the rather elegant and at least as fancy Accord Hybrid. + the previous generation Clarity was actually quite nice!

Then again nothing Honda does in USA is as dumb as what they do in Europe, it is just too hard to hit this low low.

EU Civic is “ok” at least.

    why bother?
It’s not design for electric – it’s option to have electric motors.
