Lexus LFA Successor Could Go Hybrid, Show Its Face In 2019

There have been numerous occasions during which a second generation of the LFA was brought into discussion and it seems such a model is already in the pipeline.

A new report originating from Japan writes that Toyota’s luxury brand is plotting a successor, which will drop the 4.8-liter V10 or a smaller internal combustion engine backed up by an electric motor.

The engine of choice for the next Lexus LFA will allegedly be a 3.7-liter V8 and total combined output will be close to 800 HP. Apart from a lot more oomph, the hybrid powertrain will also contribute to improved fuel consumption and lower CO2 emissions.

Rumored to debut in 2019, at the Tokyo Motor Show, the idea of a new Lexus supercar was officially dismissed a couple of months ago by the firm’s European boss, Alain Uyttenhoven, who said that the company doesn’t “need to replace it to keep that status“. He did not rule it out completely for the future, though: “I’m not saying we won’t do another LFA. I just don’t know.

Was the LFA worth it as far as doing anything for Lexus? [reputation wise – or whatever]

    • antbee

Yes! It made the world take notice that, yes, Toyota/Lexus could and did make a supercar!
The LFA impressed me a lot, but it was even more impressive in the Lexus commercial, where it seemed, from out of nowhere, this yellow LFA shows up, and passes every single one of the other Lexus vehicles in the commercial. It was awesome!

      • Exposing B-LIES-Matter

They built a super car, but I’m sure so could Hyundai. All Toyota did is copy what Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche etc. are already doing and built their own version then try to price it equivalently. That’s where Toyota failed because the wealthy didn’t want to spend Ferrari money on a Toyota so to speak.Grant it it’s a Lexus individually but nevertheless a Toyota undercover.

        • antbee

By your logic, everyone is copying everyone, then.
I view the LFA as a totally unique and exciting vehicle, no matter whose name is on it. The fact that it is a Lexus/Toyota, is what makes it like no other, because no other “mainstream” brand had done it, and was totally unexpected from Lexus/Toyota.
It appears that all 500 vehicles that were built as planned, sold within the time-frame that Lexus had set in place. I do not see how that could be considered as, “Toyota failed because the wealthy didn’t want to spend Ferrari money on a Toyota…”
Also, I think just about any auto enthusiast knows that Toyota owns Lexus, and there is some platform sharing between the two, so it’s really not relevant to point out that the LFA is “a Toyota undercover.” As the LFA shares no other platform with any other Lexus/Toyota, I would say that it is completely Lexus, inside and out.

          • Exposing B-LIES-Matter

You are incorrect unless you consider a 2 year window to sell an lfa a “time frame expected” by the automaker. Toyota admitted that lfa was a failure again in part because nobody wanted one except Toyota/Lexus’ customer base and others who aren’t, however the one thing they all have in common is that they cannot afford the price tag. And I stand correct when I say that the wealthy were not about to spend Ferrari money on a Toyota sports car no matter what. Toyota attempted a clever marketing ploy by giving Paris Hilton one of the first U.S. Bound lfa’s for FREE, she accepted and after several months so graciously returned the car. I say graciously because she could have sold it and made money but chose not to. Not that she needed the money anyway, I think the huge factor there was sitting in a car and dealing with logistics that wasn’t going to move anytime soon. The plug was pulled for obvious reason and those reasons are quite and wether you or anyone wants to accept it facts are facts, truth is the truth. Great car but brings no innovation and brings nothing to the table that justifies the price tag. Nevertheless credit to Toyota for trying.

          • antbee

You lost me at Paris Hilton. I managed to finish reading the comment, though, but it was really hard. 😉

          • Exposing B-LIES-Matter

That’s fine. Basically Paris Hilton was given an LF-A FREE from Toyota, after 6 months she returned which I thought was very humble considering that she could have sold it not that she needs the money lol. I guess she loves her AMG SLR a bit more😉

          • Rashad Harris

Her LFA was given by her ex boyfriend morn and she once said her “Lexus” was her favourite car, get educated first idiot. Also it’s not AMG SLR dumba**, it’s AMG GT or Mercedes/ McLaren SLR. You don’t know sh*t.

          • Exposing B-LIES-Matter

Okay fine I don’t know sh*t. I just know that she quoted several times that her matte pink wrapped Lamborghini which I believe is White and she had wrapped pink, as well and her Mercedes SLR were her favorite cars and that the generic Toyota which her ex-boyfriend got from Toyota to PUBLICLY GIVE to her as a PR stunt for Toyota no longer “served” her needs. In other words it’s a Gay Toyota, a Lamborghini Wannabe, and her other cars put it to shame. She even loves her blue 2007 Bentley so much that she kept it. Again same can’t be said about boring LFA. 😊👍🏻

Oh! I also know that the LF-A is a mediocre overgrown Scion FRS, it’s boring, and it’s DEAD. Stay Butthurt 😡😡😡you idiot.

          • Rashad Harris

As I said, show me the fucking proof dumb black, how the fuck is a front mid engine car a fucking Lambo wannabe??? Lambos are mid engined cars dumb fk. LFA came out way before the FRS moron.

It’s a Gay Dead Toyota Egg Roll. Nobody wants them. Look online, fast forward to 2016 and you can still find plenty with 0 miles to maybe 1000 miles out by Lexyota dealer owners and managers who drive them. You’re only fooling yourself nobody wants that garbage. You goofy Egg Roll.

The reason why most LFAs have low miles because it’s a collector’s car fktrd.

          • Exposing B-LIES-Matter

Show me an Aventador with zero miles and I’ll take you seriously until then you’re a moron who’s angry because LFA is dead mediocre garbage.

Lol! Now you want me to believe that the garbage rebadged Toyota is sitting in showroom floors with zero miles because collector car??? So by your logic they are collector cars that haven’t sold! 😂😂😂 thanks for proving my point. Nobody wants mediocre garbage rebadged Toyota.

You even said Clarkson ordered a LaFerrari hhhhaaaahahaha, any educated person would know that Clarkson would only buy the P1 out of the trinity. LaFerrari is for James May, P1 is for Jeremy Clarkson and the 918 is for Richard Hammond.

No technology? The LFA was the only car with a carbon fibre torque tube, Corvette Stingray is the only other car that has it. The V10 was smaller than a V8 and lighter than a V6, it has a carbon fibre monocoque, only cars like the million dollar LaFerrari has it, the F12 only has a aluminium chassis. The LFA was also the first supercar with a full digital instrument cluster, the engine was the highest revving production car at the time and still is today, 9500 RPM, not even the LaFerrari can reach 9500, also it’s a lot harder to have high revving V10s than other cylinder engines. GET EDUCATED FIRST moron

          • Exposing B-LIES-Matter

LF-A is a rebadged Toyota garbage. This is why they sold poorly and nobody wanted them except broke people like yourself. Toyota realized it and saved themselves the embarrassment as well as the financial losses. You stupid Egg Roll. 😂😂😂

Also, Larry Ellison, one of the richest man drives his LFA the most and love it more than any of his cars. He preferred the LFA over his Enzo, his Carrera GT. The LFA was and still is Jeremy Clarkson’s favourite car. The Stig also once said F12 is the only car that could hold a candle to the LFA. You are so uneducated about cars.

          • Exposing B-LIES-Matter

You’re an idiot GAY JDM girl. Those people were given free LF-A’s by Toyota because Toyota wanted show the masses that even rich people were leading them😂😂😂 Rich people are intelligent wether they are in America, Europe, Asia, or anywhere else. They are not going to be like the less financially secure masses and settle for a fancy Japanese Cadillac which is just a rebadged Toyota. None of those people have a Toyota LF-A.

Speaking of Larry Ellison. Hmmm according to your quote “he loves his Mediocre Toyota LF-A so much that he perferres it over his Enzo” you wish. Then explain why Mr. Ellison owns a Ferrari La Ferrari, Porsche 918 Gulf (Which shames the rebadged Toyota) Bugatti Veyron, AND still owns the ENZO, Porsche Carerra and no longer has a Toyota LF-A.???????? i bet you couldn’t explain that one without making a fool of yourself Wang.

            Please stop embarrassing yourself.

          • Rashad Harris

Prove to me that Toyota gave them the car moron. Lexus is far more than a rebadge Toyota you black niga, is Porsche a rebadge Beetle? Because it was originated as a Beetle dumb**. Ellison owns many other cars because he is fucking rich idiot, explain to me why Jeremy Clarkson loves the LFA? How do you know he doesn’t own the LFA anymore? Show me the proof??

          • Exposing B-LIES-Matter

Lol! Nice try but the Beetle is better than a generic Corolla or Scion. Porsche doesn’t have to give their fabulous models the axe because nobody wants them. HA! HA! Show proof that any of them still own the Gay Toyota. That’s right you can’t.
You’re just another angry Egg Roll because you [email protected] can’t compete. No wonder all your women want us.

            Enough Said. 😎

          • Exposing B-LIES-Matter

Well a beetle is better than a generic Corolla or Scion. Lexus is and always will be just a rebadged Toyota that is a wannabe and a copy cat of the best from Europe. Don’t try and change the subject. Explain to me why Larry Ellison got rid of the Rebadged Toyota?? Uhhh Huhhh. Jeremy Clarkson loves his Porsche Audi and Lamborghini’s better and I believe he also ordered a La Ferrari though it might of been borrowed to him. Anyway that was a long time ago today I’m sure if asked he would respond with “I’m sorry what’s an LFA?” But again Jeremy Clarkson was also on Toyota’s payroll and yes Toyota has a budget for marketing and keeping the masses in their little trance. Toyota doesn’t need to be rich for that. Though with all the money they lost in the failed LFA and the billions in lawsuits from the sticky pedals, as well as the garbage airbags from takata I’d be careful because a Bankruptcy court isn’t that far in the horizon.

But prove any of them still have the Generic Rebadged Toyota. Thanks Eggroll!

          • Exposing B-LIES-Matter

First of all those silly articles come from sources that are barely credible, lol did I mention OLD!? Everything points to Toyota paying people considered socialites and well known in the news world in order to bring ATTENTION and CREDIBILITY to their generic products that they rebadge as Lexus. Duh. It works like this:

Toyota Global meets and discussed ways to promote a funny car like the LF-A. The idea to target celebrities pops in someone’s mind.

Marketing Campagnes are launched at Toyota North America’s Lexus Division.

Paris Hilton’s Agent and Larry Ellison’s agent receive a call and an offer is made. Free LFA, a nice check for Paris and Larry to agree to such silly idea imho.

Hopeful Result? That the masses will finally start to take Lexyota a little more seriously.

Plan backfires. Lesson learned. The End.

Now to correct your theory we all don’t see Porsche having to terminate any of it’s models because nobody wants them. Even the 911 with its Iconic design since the 1960’s doesn’t need to change. Everybody wants them. Oops! Can’t say the same for boring Toyota. 🤓🤓🤓

        • Crossed

this is how children think. Men and Women that are passionate about cars value the car and the engineering. And whats wrong with the Lexus name? Lexus = Luxury and Refinement.
          Lexus is an elegant brand.

    • Vassilis

      Absolutely. For me at least.

    • Gooseman

I think it helped them shape the styling design of their current models, which many people (myself included) find aggressive and eye catching.

    • Exposing B-LIES-Matter

Not pricing it at $300k that was an Epic Fail on Toyota. If they reasonably price it then it could be a success.

  • Kash

I was kind of surprised the LFA wasn’t a hybrid so it’s successor being a Hybrid is a no-brainer to me.

    • antbee

No one was ready for Lexus/Toyota to have a supercar, when the LFA was introduced, so I think it not having hybrid technology in its first iteration, was a smart move on the company’s part. Now, that hybrid technology is more in the public’s eye, so to speak, LFA 2.0 with hybrid tech will not surprise any supercar buyers. I think, if anything, they would come to expect it, with Porsche, McLaren, and Ferrari leading the way. I can’t wait to see it!
Now, if only we could get a new Supra… LOL!

      • Kash

People loved the LFA and they loved the IS F so I don’t think throwing in some hybrid tech into the LFA wouldn’t’ve changed much. Plus at the time Lexus was focusing on hybrid cars and expanding their range so people would’ve just shrugged and said “well it’s a Lexus, of course it’s a hybrid!” I also don’t think it was so much people weren’t expecting the LFA but they weren’t expecting Lexus to throw sensibility and practicality out the window for the LFA.

I remember one reviewer saying they expected the LFA to be just a little more usable in everyday life, they expected it to be used like an E-class by the person who only owns super cars, the metaphorical Lexus of supercars.

If anything I think it would’ve pushed hybrid tech into sports/super cars sooner and I think we’d be a lot further along today as a result of it. I think we would’ve had things like a McLaren 650S hybrid by now or we would’ve had the 918, P1, and LaFerrari a year or so sooner, things along those lines.

  • Сафиуллина-Мохамед Рамазанов

if it will have the Toyota TS040 mechanical architecture it will be awesome
Toyota’s TS040 engine is ready and worked amazing in the previous 2 years and honestly i will never be shocked if they put the TS040 mechanics in the LFA -II and make it more urban
the main point of LFA plus the driving experience is to test new tech and i think it will be the first non track production ready car to have capacitors

  • fabri99

    I’m not happy with this.
The Lexus LFA, just like the Mercedes McLaren SLR, should be a halo car and just that. I’m not saying Lexus shouldn’t pursue performance, but just in a totally different way. People have to remember that day when “Lexus built the greatest supercar ever”. In ten years time, when a comeback will be even more heavily desired than now, then give it a successor. Not now, it’s too early. Let it be exclusive, desired.

  • Vassilis

It’d be great to get a successor but I’ll miss that screaming V10!

  • Enter Ranting

It’s gonna need a cartoonishly-oversized spindle grille that starts at the license plate and ends at the top of the windshield.

    • Six_Tymes

      LOL!

  • Exposing B-LIES-Matter

They can do another “super car” if they want but it would have to be on par with the Acura NSX. Pricing one at $300k was huge and costly mistake that I’m sure Toyota doesn’t want to revisit.

    • Rashad Harris

on par with the Acura NSX? Ni*** WTF are you smoking, The LFA was smoking the competitions in track performance at the time, 7:14 around the Nurburgring without sticky tires, how did the NSX do? The new NSX is basically a mid engine GTR and do you know how boring the GTR is???? Computer controlled everything, once turned off the computers, it becomes shit.

      • Exposing B-LIES-Matter

Sorry but LF-A wasn’t smoking competitions at all. It was a Lamborghini wannabe made by Generic Toyota and did poorly especially in sales. Also it was embarrassing when it hit a 3 Series BMW head on because I think the driver was too busy being goofy and showing off like he was cool or something anyway the result was he ended up killing the Exaggerated Toyota and himself. So much for that “Carbon Fiber” “Construction” lol. I think that really exposed Toyota for their generic ways. Anyhow BMW driver walked away BMW was fixed.

Toyota has learned a very valuable lesson don’t try and be something you’re not.

That said yes people call the Acura a wannabe Audi R8 but you know what it’s AMERICAN MADE which is first and foremost secondly it’s Hybrid, thirdly it can has and already embarrassed several generic Toyota LF-A’s. Stop being a little lady boy wang and take the truth in like man.

        • Rashad Harris

The driver died because the car had no fucking airbag moron, I never even mentioned the R8 are you f**king blind? A Japanese that is made in America is so great?? NI** never forget slavery from the great Ol’Americans, go back to picking cottons, the LFA still has the 7:14 Nurburgring time, please show me the NSX time would you????? Funny you keep saying Toyota when Acura is a Honda.

          • Exposing B-LIES-Matter

I thought I’d mention it before you went and called the NSX a wannabe R8. By the way ‘m not even black you uneducated Gaysian. Anyway the bottom line here is that the LF-A is a dead Mediocre Toyota junk that nobody really wanted except for some WW2 veterans that managed to save up some money as well the fat and balding Saudi Royals. 😄😄😄

Stay Angry you retarded Egg Roll. 🤗🤗🤗

  • Ary Wisesa

    I love Lexus LFA.

  • Exposing B-LIES-Matter

These lf-a’s are garbage they can’t even survive a head on collision with a BMW 3 Series. Smh. And nobody was willing to dish out the money that toyota was seeking. No wonder they themselves claimed this junk was a financial disaster right along with the recalls and law suits.

    • SV9987

As a long time Toyota employee, I would like to see you provide sources to your claims.

If you are not a fan of Toyota, that is fine, no need to force your opinion onto others. But making such bold statements without any sources won’t get your arguments or opinions across to anybody. So show me your source that Paris Hilton got her LFA for free, and show me where Toyota admitted to this being a financial disaster with recalls and law suits. Oh, and BTW making racial slurs like ” EGGROLL”? Really? I guess I shouldn’t be bothered though, its you who has to live with yourself, not me or anyone here on Autoblog.
