After getting a taster of Renault’s new SUV earlier today through a single press image, we can now show you more of the car that will be named Koleos in China.
In these pictures that circulated on Chinese forums, we see that the design of both the front and rear ends of the new Koleos are strongly influenced by the Talisman series (especially the fascia, which is nearly identical) with the smaller Kadjar crossover loaning its stance and profile to Renault’s largest SUV model yet.
The new generation of the Koleos shares its underpinnings with the Nissan X-Trail, which is sold as the Rogue in North America, riding on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s Common Module Family (CMF) platform. It has the same wheelbase length at 2,705mm (106.5 in) as the X-Trail, while being marginally longer at 4,672mm (183.9 in) vs 4,641mm (182.7 in) and wider at 1,843mm (72.6 in) vs 1,820mm (71.6 in).
In China, the 2017 Koleos will come with a choice of two four-cylinder gasoline engines, a base 2.0-liter unit delivering 150 horsepower, and a 2.5-liter mill rated for 186 horsepower, paired to either 6-speed manual or automatic transmissions, in both front- and all-wheel drive layouts.
For the Chinese market, the Koleos will be built locally by the Renault-Nissan group’s joint-venture with Dongfeng. It will also be offered in Europe and other regions across the world from next year with different specifications and powertrains, though, it’s not sure if it will retain the Koleos name or, as some rumors suggest, adopt the Maxthon badge. Production for these international markets will probably take place at Renault’s Busan plant in South Korea.
