There are mishaps with loaners, and then there are mishaps with Ferrari loaners – and trust us, you do not want to be that person who damages an exotic Italian supercar.

Enter YouTuber Marchettino who took one of his friend’s / tuning associate’s Ferrari 458 Speciale for a drive, only to forget to properly close the hood.

“My camera was still running the moment I broke my mistake my friend R3 Wheels’ Ferrari 458 Speciale. An erroneous closing of front bonnet has caused its sudden opening as I took off with the result of smashing the windshield,” wrote the Italian YouTuber.

Perhaps the worst feeling after a mishap like that isn’t when you actually realize that you damaged the car, but when you realize that you have to confront and explain the damage to the owner or the person responsible of loaning you the vehicle.

We must say, though, we’re impressed with Marchettino’s dedication to filming, as the last thing most drivers would want to do after an incident like this, is continue recording.

Given the repair costs associated with a car like the 458 Speciale, the guys at R3 Wheels seemed pretty cool about it – on camera at least – with the owner saying, “Shit happens. It’s only a car.”

On the flip side, both Marchettino and his friend’s company are bound to get some online attention from this incident.
