Ford Driver Making Illegal Highway U-Turn Causes Chevy To Overturn

A Canadian driver’s incomprehensible decision to make a sudden and illegal U-turn on a highway in Toronto led to another car rolling over and crashing, injuring at least one person.

The accident was captured on a dashboard camera and posted on YouTube by user Tim G, who said it occurred a little after 2:00 PM last Thursday, May 5, 2016, on Highway 27 in Etobicoke.

“A car in the right lane performed an illegal U-turn, cutting off another car in the fast lane in the process,” said Tim G. on the video’s description. “The cut off car’s speed was in excess of 100km/h (over 60mph), and consequently, lost control of his vehicle after clipping the cutter car’s corner. He then zig-zagged in front of me, rolled up to the east embankment onto its roof, and then rolled back onto his wheels.”

The dashcam driver said that the motorist in the Chevy Cruze sustained minor injuries but was in shock. “I administered minor first aid until the paramedics arrived,” he said.

  • The New Norm = Stupid

Unfortunately, crappy driving like this is becoming the norm. I hope the Explorer drive goes to jail and loses their license completely.

  • smartacus

That Cruze ended up like Ted Cruz

  • CockneyblokefromReading

Some people with a driving licence are all but brain dead.

  • rover10

    It’s a brain cell issue.

  • MJack

Just a quick note…Hwy 27 isn’t a highway (it used to be). The posted limit, depending on where you are is either 60kph or 80kph…and if Mr. Cruz was doing 100kph he’s going way to fast. HOWEVER; numb-nuts in the Explorer caused the problem. It doesn’t matter if Mr. Cruz is speeding or not…Explorer dude is completely at fault!

    • Randy Terpstra

Though numbered as a regional road, it is known as Highway 27.

      • MJack

For sure…same as Hwy 7. Slightly misleading for anyone visiting

    • Erzhik

Judging by the video, the guy in the Cruz wasn’t speeding at all. Trucks have lower speed limit than cars.

      • Status

At the 40 second mark, both the truck, the Explorer, Cruze, and truck enter an 80 zone. Judging by the posted speed on the dash cam of the low to mid 90’s, ALL 3 were speeding.

      • MJack

Looks like the truck’s doing about 92kph in an 80kph zone, and the Cruze more or less breezed by him. Probably at 100kph (or perhaps a touch more…it is Toronto afterall…we only have two speeds; 0kph in rush hour or 120kph every other time)

  • PlonPlon

A bad habit people have in Toronto. You see that everywhere in town.

  • Scott Carmichael

Not sure why it was important for the article to even mention the makes of the vehicles?

    • bobfun

It’s to breed conflict. gets them more views.

    • MultiKdizzle

Not sure if you’ve noticed, but this is a car website.

      Pretty simple stuff.

  • Tim G

Different Tim G, apparently. If I had been the Cruze driver, I’d have probably braked hard when the Explorer started to drift, not continue on passing on the median. Maybe I’m a bit judgmental…

  • cooper

WTF are they listening to on the radio ?

    • Matt

      think it was sam harris

  • Craig

SOMEONE said that they are ‘good enough’ to have a driver’s license. Imagine that! Perhaps those people should be held accountable – in some way – for their decision to pass such drivers. There is no way they ‘aced’ the test and then did THIS!
