BMW’s 2017MY Range Brings New 230i, 330i & 430i, i8 In Protonic Red, And More

BMW has announced a bevy of changes to its 2017 model year lineup in the States, ranging from fresh shades of paint and upgraded standard and optional features, to new engines and a facelift.

We’ll start with the latter, which is none other than the 2017 3-Series Gran Turismo that received some light cosmetic upgrades inside and out, together with a newer 2.0-liter turbocharged four producing 248hp and 258 lb-ft for the 330i that replaces the 328i, and a 3.0-liter turbo’d straight six with  320hp and 330 lb-ft for the 340i.

The same 2.0L turbo gasoline four also finds its way into the renamed 230i, 430i and the 330i sedan and Touring models, while the M240i Coupe and Convertible get BMW’s newer 3.0L turbo with an extra 15hp and 39 lb-ft of torque at 335hp and 369 lb-ft respectively. Meanwhile, the 435i gets replaced by the 440i with the same upgraded 320hp 3.0L as the 340i models.

Elsewhere, BMW made numerous changes to the equipment lists, including the addition of an Adaptive Suspension on the M3 and M4 as standard, a newer iDrive 5.0 etc.

Moving on to BMW’s “i” range of high-tech, eco-friendly rides, the 2017 i3 gets a larger 33kWH battery with nearly 50 percent greater capacity resulting in a combined range of 114 miles (183km), while the i8 sports car can now be had with a new color named ‘Protonic Red’.

That’s just an online of the changes implemented for 2017; for those of you interested in extra details on a specific model, you can head to the detailed press list below. Just bear in mind that BMW has yet to release info on its 2017MY SUV range that includes the X1, X3, X4, X5, X6 and X5 and X6 M models.

I don’t understand…why would BMW change like 3 6-cylinder engines (N54, N55, B58) while keeping the same power and almost the same mileage ? Same with the 2 liter engines…looks like waste of money.
