This is the first time we get to see a journalist being driven in the mighty 1,500PS Bugatti Chiron.

Car Throttle’s Alex Kersten was given a ride in the new Bug by no other than the company’s president Wolfgang Durheimer on the Nurburgring, giving us a first taste of the most impressive petrol-powered automobile in the world.

The Chiron outclasses the mind-boggling numbers of its predecessor by a long mile: the heavily revised quad-turbo 8.0-litre W16 engine produces 1479hp (1500PS) and 1179lb ft (1600Nm) of torque, 0-62mph (0-100km/h) comes in less than 2.5 seconds while the top speed is limited (!) to 261mph (420km/h).

Durheimer also answers everyone’s burning question: Yes, Bugatti will take the Chiron for a world record-breaking attempt for the fastest car ever – in 2018. With the speedometer topping out at 500km/h (310mph), it looks ready to leave us stunned when the time comes.
