Audi’s smallest crossover hasn’t even arrived in showrooms, yet our spies have spotted the range-topping SQ2 being driven around the famous track completely free of camouflage.

The go-fast iteration of the Q2 is expected to feature the same powertrain as the Audi S3, meaning a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol four-cylinder lump good enough for 306hp sent to all four wheels, though we suspect that it might lose a few horses in the smaller model.

From what we can see, the SQ2 is following the familiar path of distinguishing itself from its lesser siblings with a set of more dynamic-looking bumpers, featuring a large air intake at the front and a diffuser at the rear. A set of larger wheels and bigger brakes complete the revisions of the exterior.

There have also been some rumors floating around that Audi will not stop at the SQ2 as it’s considering an RS Q2 version as well, allegedly powered by the 362hp 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbo used in the RS3, but that sounds a bit of a stretch considering that Ingolstadt already offers the bigger RS Q3 with the same unit and which rivals the Mercedes GLA 45 AMG.

The regular Audi Q2 is expected to be launched this fall, with the faster SQ2 version to follow in late 2017 or early 2018.
