The Jaguar Land Rover group has opened its first wholly-owned manufacturing plant outside UK with models like the Range Rover Evoque and Discovery Sport scheduled for production there.

The new £240million facility also includes an Education Business Partnership Center and is located in Itatiaia, Brazil.

The new factory follows the opening of the company’s joint venture in China in 2014 and will be building the Evoque and Discovery Sport for the local market, where Land Rover is the leading premium SUV brand and Jaguar has seen its sales increasing by 70 per cent in the first five months of 2016.

“The opening of Jaguar Land Rover’s new world-class facility in Brazil marks the latest exciting milestone in our global expansion”, said Wolfgang Stadler, Executive Director of Manufacturing. “Land Rover is already Brazil’s market-leader for mid-sized premium SUVs, accounting for more than 30% of all sales in that segment.”

In addition, the Education Business Partnership Center will offer education programmes for children aged 5 to 18. The courses are focused on engineering, manufacturing and automotive business-related activities.

Jaguar Land Rover has sourced major components for the model built there such as seats, cockpit, exhaust, chassis and powertrain assembly from local suppliers as part of their on-going commitment to the Brazilian industry.
