Italian supercars are known for their neck-twisting designs, mind-blowing performance and, occasionally, for bursting into flames for no obvious reason.

The latest exotic engulfed by flames is a Lamborghini Aventador, which managed to bring traffic to a stop at the junction of Southwark Street and Blackfriars Bridge, in the middle of London’s rush hour traffic, after its engine decided to start a barbecue.

This chap was sitting in traffic and I heard the car revving, then someone shouted ‘your car is on fire’“, said a witness, quoted by Express. “It started off as a small flame on the side and then it escalated very quickly, getting close to the engine. At the start, it just looked like the exhaust was flaming like some supercars do.

Emergency services arrived at the scene in no time, closed the road and kept people away from the burning wreckage, while six firefighters took 10 minutes to extinguish the blaze. The driver was unharmed, as he made a lucky escape from the fireball moments before the authorities took control of the situation. Chances are the Aventador is a complete loss.

This isn’t the first time that the Raging Bull’s flagship is involved in a flame-eating incident, as another example ruined part of its rear end earlier this year, with a valet parker behind the wheel, in Miami. Four years earlier, another Lamborghini was completely destroyed by flames, on the California State Route 73, and London has also witnessed a similar, although lighter incident, in 2014.
