When Mazda rolls into Goodwood later this month for the Festival of Speed, it won’t just bring any ordinary version of its MX-5 roadster. It will introduce a new special edition – the first to be based on the more frugal 1.5-liter model.

Dubbed the Icon edition, the special Miata is distinguished by red accents on the door mirrors, spoiler, front splitter, and stripe decals. Buyers will be able to choose between Meteor Grey Mica or Crystal White Pearlescent paint, offset by 16-inch gunmetal-finish alloys. The Mazda MX-5 Icon also benefits from black leather seats and upgraded equipment including automatic headlights, wipers, and rear parking sensor.

Following the previous Icon editions launched in 2000, 2005, and 2007, this latest rendition will be the most exclusive yet. Only 600 examples will be made available in the UK, with deliveries to begin in August for £20,995.

Alongside the special edition, Mazda will display the MX-5 Speedster and Spyder concepts for the first time outside of North America, following their reveal at the SEMA show in Las Vegas this past November. Also on display will be the new RF hardtop model, and the millionth MX-5 made, the landmark having been reached in April.
