Generally speaking, improving the power to weight ratio is exactly what you need in order to take on heavier, yet more powerful opponents in a straight line.

The main protagonist here is this Morendi-tuned 600 PS Mercedes-AMG GT S, which took turns racing both a 700 PS CLS 63 AMG 4Matic with a PP-Performance Stage 2 tune, as well as an 830 PS Gorilla Racing Stage 4 ML 63 AMG.

The latter weighs a monster 700 kg (1,543 lbs) more than the GT S, yet produces roughly 230 PS more from its large 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8 unit. The older CLS 63 uses the same engine, with the exact power and torque figures when stock – which would give it very little chance against the AMG GT S if there were no mods involved.

Seen as though that’s not the case, we could easily classify this particular drag race as being somewhat unpredictable, especially with that much power on tap, and the AMG GT S being the only car here without the benefit of an all-wheel drive launch.
