2017 Ford Fusion Sport Unleashes Performance At The Push Of A Button

There’s plenty to love about a performance sedan. And one of them is its ability to transform from mild-mannered family transport to full-on performance machine – often at the push of a button, as in the new 2017 Ford Fusion Sport.

In developing the new 325-horsepower Fusion Sport, Ford installed a new rotary gear shift dial, complete with a sport button at its center. Push it and the vehicle transforms seven key dynamics.

The dampers stiffen up to increase responsiveness and minimize body roll. The active noise cancellation system lets more of the engine note into the cabin. The steering tightens up. The transmission holds lower gears and matches revs on the downshift. The throttle livens up for more immediate response. The paddle shifters activate to allow for individual gear selection on the fly. And the change in demeanor is indicated in the instrument cluster.

The sum total is of a more vehicle more focused (if you’ll pardon the mixup in model designation) on performance. With its 2.7-liter turbocharged V6 pumping out 325 horses and 380 lb-ft of torque, the Fusion Sport promises to keep pace with fancier sports sedans imported from overseas far pricier than the Ford that could be the ultimate sleeper on the market today.

i love the look of the Fusion from inside and out but the one thing that strikes me as an eyesore is the center stack. Particularly the display, it looks cheap and not well picked out. maybe if it had a gloss black plastic finish or something like the Taurus’ setup to match the rest of the interiors upscale quality.

Reviews are in and they are disappointing. Tranmission isnt up par and the engine and exhaust note arent sporty at all

I mean, it is a Ford Fusion after all…

I should of applied to Carscoops… They don’t even require proofreading the article before they publish it.
By the way the Fusion is a decent American mid-sized chassis, but “the ultimate sleeper” it is not.

It’s basically an Edge sport, also a disappointing product that has so much potential to be a poor man’s X5 for 10k less.

I wish they would instead make a Fusion ST. A used Fusion Sport though in a couple of years, fully-loaded for around 34k or less, will be an absolute steal though.

    • They sold a Mondeo ST in Europe until 2007 when the Mondeo Mk 4 came in. I think they must have sold poorly cause it’s very rare that I see one on the road (UK).

  • I did a rendering of another performance Fusion/Mondeo for my blog, the Lotus Mondeo, spiritual successor to the 1960s Lotus Cortina.
