Genesis Details New 2017 G90 Flagship For The US Market [93 Pics]

Hyundai’s premium Genesis brand released technical and range details on their updated flagship, the new G90.

Known as the EQ900 in Korea, the new Genesis G90 is set to compete with established luxury cars like the Mercedes S-Class, the BMW 7-Series, the Audi A8, the Lexus LS and the Cadillac CT6.

In order to do so, the brand claims that their new flagship now offers “world-class technological innovations and the highest levels of refinement, convenience and dynamic performance”.

Starting with the engine range, the new Genesis G90 will be available with a brand-new twin turbo 3.3-litre V6 engine that produces 365hp/6,000rpm and 376lb ft/1,300-4,500rpm and a 5.0-litre V8 with 420hp/6,000rpm and 383lb ft/5,000rpm. Both engines are offered with an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard while customers will be able to opt for the H-Trac AWD system if they need some extra grip from their new limo.

Design-wise the new G90 is not looking to rewrite the rulebook and it doesn’t need to either: the front features the brand’s characteristic ‘Crest’ grille matched with jewel-like daytime running lights with V8 models offering a set of optional full-LED headlights with a distinctive lighting signature.

The bodywork makes clever use of several chrome elements to further boost the elegant appeal of the new G90. Details like the integrated exhaust tips in the rear bumper and the LED taillights are a must in a segment where every little thing matters. Genesis claims a best-in-class 0.27 drag coefficient also.

Another key point is the interior of course. Genesis opted for the highest-quality materials as you would expect, with the cabin featuring genuine wood accents, expensive leather with precision stitching and ambient lighting among others. Even the speaker grilles of the high-end Lexicon audio system are machined out of stainless steel.

The infotainment system makes use of a 12.3-inch high-definition digital display which can be operated via a control knob on the centre console. A seven-inch TFT LCD display is also housed in the instrument binnacle.

A 4.5-inch increase in wheelbase brought even more room and comfort for passengers and allowed for smaller overall overhangs. The adaptive suspension, sourced by Sachs/ZF, allows for optimal handling without affecting the ride comfort.

Genesis’ engineers dedicated hundreds of hours to fine-tuning the chassis in order to reduce noise levels and further enhance passenger comfort. The new G90 features special sound-proofing materials throughout the cabin and even the windows have a specially laminated acoustic film applied to them. Road noise is further suppressed thanks to the special Helmholtz two-piece hollow wheel design, which features an integral sound absorption chamber for the standard 19-inch wheels. This design allows not only for reduced tire noise levels but also reduces the overall unsprung weight by 7lbs.

The new Genesis flagship also offers the most complete range of active safety systems as standard, unlike its closest competitors. Features like Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) with Pedestrian Detection, Smart Blind Spot Detection (SBSD) with Rear Cross-traffic Alert, Lane Keep Assist, Driver Attention Alert, Dynamic Bending Light with High Beam Assist, and a 360-degree Multi-view Monitor are all part of the standard equipment.
