Jeremy Clarkson Reveals His Top Ten Cars Of The Past Year

As arguably the most outspoken and well-known motoring journalist in the industry, Amazon’s Jeremy Clarkson should know that his personal car preferences can influence quite a lot of people.

That being said, in his most recent piece on The Sunday Times, he revealed his top 10 drives of the past year (or so). The former Top Gear presenter went on to name a couple of surprises in a list that also holds quite a few more or less logical choices for any car enthusiast.

While we’re pretty certain his list comes in no particular order, we are a little bit surprised the Mazda MX-5 2.0 Sport Recaro is in there, since Mr Clarkson is known for appreciating power above all else, which is something the MX-5 lacks – but more than makes up for in agility. He even goes on to call it “a cure for depression”, which means he really liked it.

The full list, also includes the Alfa Romeo 4C Coupe, the Mercedes-AMG GT S, Focus RS, Mustang Fastback 5.0 V8 GT, Volvo XC90 D5 AWD, the Vauxhall Zafira Tourer 1.6 CDTi Tech Line (yes you read that correctly), the BMW M2, Ferrari 488 GTB and the Lamborghini Aventador.

Again, judging by what Jeremy Clarkson has taught us about himself, the Mustang is also a curious addition to his list, as is the Zafira of course and perhaps even the Aventador, which he says he’d take over something like the McLaren P1 because “which would you rather have as a pet: a clever and sophisticated electronic robot? Or a bloody great brontosaurus?”

We’ll let you answer that question among yourselves, while also considering Clarkson actually called the Zafira “the most comfortable car in the world.”

As for all of his other choices, we’d like to think they’re pretty obvious.

does anyone know what is the orange car he is standing in front of in the photo?

    • Jason Gordon

      Zenvo ST1:

      • Amr Magdy

        you have a good eye…thanks

      • Tumbi Mtika

It set the world record for Zenvo going the longest without catching fire.

        • Jason Gordon

          ahahaha

  • fabri99

I really didn’t feel the need to know that Mr. Clarkson – I used to like you, but now you’re just acting like you’re god. And you are not.

    • Matt

The man isn’t allowed to compile a list? He is a journalist and columnist – that’s kind of his job. What would you rather him do?

      • fabri99

Oh come on, I’m surely not the only one bothered by his behaviour. Hammond, May and him are regarded to as the greatest authorities in the field…

        • SgtBeavis

Perhaps it is time to pluck a new one from Clarkson Island.

    • Vyurr

There is one key difference between the two, Jeremy Clarkson exists.

      • fabri99

        Or does he?

      • Tumbi Mtika

        Easy…

    • Poison_Eagle

Stop throwing shade at Mr. Clarkson. He’s a nice man and God has a capital letter, Sonny Jim.

      • fabri99

I used to love him, but now that he is so famous he just got annoying and a show-off. Once on the Middle East roadtrip he said he could walk on water because he was JC… That was fun, I hope the Grand Tour will be too, but I’m not too confident about that.

        • Poison_Eagle

Yeah fair enough he’s a bit of a knob. Chris Harris is a better dude.

  • Vassilis

Oh no Clarkson is becoming sensible.

  • Elmediterraneo

That wierd moment when you see a Vauxhall Zafira 1.6 diesel in the same list than 488 GTB, Aventador and AMG GT S…

    • Poison_Eagle

      Yeah I shat myself.

  • Kash

There are some things I’m surprised by, but things like the 488, GT S, and even the XC90 all make sense, but the 4C, i didn’t really see him being a big fan of that. I figured he would’ve criticized it for being so wide with such a small engine crammed into it, then there would be a series of questions about what’s taking up all that room with many stupid guesses worth at least a pity laugh.

Jeremy has always had a thing for Alfas’, if you went back to the episode where he reviews the 8C. He absolutely adores the car and even the title of the review questions whether it’s ‘an art’, and he actually even says he doesn’t know why he loves it because it drove horribly. With the 4C, the car is impractical, compact and the epitome of what a sports car should be: raw & lightweight; with no AC, no climate control, no radio, CF chassis, and a whole bunch of weight saving. It’s like a more refined Lotus Elise with an Italian father.

  • Poison_Eagle

Yeah I’d agree if I didn’t disagree but I agree with the ones I agree with. You know?
