Plenty of model lines have crested the million-unit mark over the history of the automotive industry, but they’re typically mass-market hatchbacks, sedans and trucks. The Mazda MX-5 Miata, then, stands as something of a rarity, marking its millionth unit made as the most prolific roadster in automobile history. That gives Mazda cause to celebrate, and celebrate it will with the Millionth Miata Celebration Tour.

The event will see two very significant Miatas tour across the United States. The millionth Miata ever made is a Japanese-spec, right-hand-drive model with the 1.5-liter engine, and will be joined by the 15th example built: a 1990 model that served as the 1989 Chicago Auto Show display car that resides in the Heritage Collection at Mazda North American Operations.

The tour starts at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on August 18 as part of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, and finishes at the same location on October 2. In between it will visit dealerships in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Chicago, Indianapolis, Columbus, Charlotte, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Daytona Beach, Austin, Dallas, Phoenix, and LA, stopping at Grandsport Speedway in Houston along the way.

Visitors will have the opportunity to sign the landmark millionth Miata and come home with a t-shirt marking the occasion. So if you’re a fan of the little roadster, check out the schedule and see when the tour is coming to your area.
