It was 1996 when the Calibra V6 won the International Touring Car Championship (ITCC) with Manuel Reuter.

Twenty years later, Opel is celebrating this achievement by bringing it at the AVD Oldtimer Grand Prix that will be held at the Nurburgring between August 12 and 14, and former DTM racer Jockel Winkelhock will be at the driver’s seat.

The all-wheel drive champ will be joined by the Irmscher Manta A, which was the first one to cross the finishing line in the 1975 Spa 24 Hours, driven by Walter Rohl and Rauno Aaltonen, by the Group 4 Gerent Opel GT and by a 1971 Steinmetz Commodore.

Opel’s display of horsepower will also include the Group 5 Rekord C nicknamed the “Black Widow”, Group H Manta, and the winner of Nurburgring 24 Hours in 2003, Astra V8 Coupe, the racer that almost went into production as an OPC X-Treme. At the Opel Classic stand, three rally cars driven by Walter Rohl, an Ascona A, a Kadett C GT/E and an Ascona 400, will be on display and, apart from the oldtimers, the fresh Astra TCR will make an appearance too.
