Saudi Prince Buys Bugatti Chiron Show Car And Vision Gran Turismo Concept

A Saudi Prince has just been announced as the buyer of the Bugatti Chiron show car from Geneva and most notably, the one-off Vision Gran Turismo Concept car unveiled last year.

Prince Badr bin Saud is said to be worth upwards of $21 billion so obviously had the money to purchase these unique creations. Bugatti confirmed that Saud submitted “the most convincing bid” to buy the pair, inevitably a figure well in excess of $5 million.

We know that both the Chiron show car from this year’s Geneva Motor Show and the Vision Gran Turismo concept car from Frankfurt 2015 run and are installed with the firm’s staple quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine. Beyond that however, their performance capabilities are unknown.

Development of the Chiron is continuing so inevitably, Saud’s Chiron isn’t a production-ready example and is unlikely to be used as anything more than a design piece. As pieces of French art go, it is up there with the very best however.

The extent of Saud’s car collection isn’t known but we’d expect these two to be joining dozens of other exclusively and valuable automobiles.

Just yesterday, it was confirmed that the Chiron and Vision Gran Turismo concept will be displayed together for the first time at next month’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. It isn’t yet known if Saud’s Chiron will be the example displayed or if Bugatti will instead roll-out another one of its prototypes.

Live it up while you can, prince. What’s the plan for Saudi Arabia when world reliance on oil plummets? (I noticed you bought two gas guzzlers.)

    • he’ll be already dead when Saudi Arabia won’t have any petrol or Money, well for the money if they insvested well, it can last. But next generations will have the troubles.

They aren’t stupid. The region may dry up and the locals left behind may get burned, but the wealthy arabs in the middle east already own significant stakes in many of the worlds major banks and other firms. They’re trying to make Dubai and Saudi Arabia more tourist friendly to pick up the slack, but their religion-based culture is still to rigid for most of the world’s tastes to have truly broad appeal.

Why would anyone want to vacation in Dubai or Saudi Arabia?

  • I just think Bugatti shoud’nt sell prototypes and 1 of 1 cars not made for costumers. I guess it was sold for a lot, but still, VW never bought Bugatti to make money with it.
