Texan Thieves Steal $200,000 Worth Of Wheels And Tires From Chevy Dealership

The wheels of 48 new vehicles were stolen from a Chevrolet dealership in Tyler, Texas over the weekend.

The local police department says that at approximately 1am on Sunday, the thieves cut the locks to the dealer’s rear parking lot where most of the cars were stored. Over the ensuing four hours, the group of thieves made off with over $200,000 worth of wheels and tires.

Security cameras were unable to identify the thieves as they knocked out the lights of the parking lot before going on the wheel stealing rampage.

Cars targeted included multiple Chevrolet Camaros, Traverses and Silverado pickups, reports Automotive News.

The general manager at Peltier Chevrolet, David Bates said that he is contact with the dealer’s insurance company to have the tires and wheels replaced. He also revealed that some of the vehicles were damaged because of how they were left sitting on concrete blocks.

Do they not have security guards at dealerships in US? Seems like this has happened way more than once.

How the hell aren’t these cars fitted with anti-theft lug nuts? Even if it’s not standard it’s a cheap option that should be added to all cars.

    • nma

Some anti-theft lugs would not have stopped this caliber of wheel thief. They were prepared to do this. Those anti-theft lugs only stop a casual thief.

  • ediotsavant

No big deal. People aren’t rushing to buy Camaros.

Well, parts of Texas are, that’s for sure. Yeeeee Haw!

Bullshit. Texas (if it were an independent Republic once again) would have the 10th largest economy in the world. We are a world leader in technology, from computers to bio-science. Texans enjoy a fantastic quality of life due to low cost of living, good wages, and no income tax. We lead the nation in job growth.

I suppose we’ve gotten to the point where we need to have vin-style serial numbers etched into wheels. Get caught with stolen or modified #s, it’s a felony.

Those thieves must be wimps. In my neck of the woods, we had some thieves who stole catalytic converters off of new Ram pick ups at a local Chrysler dealership. Now that takes skill!

    • T_Cake

Are you sure the dealer didn’t do it to make it more appealing for potential Ram buyers? 🙂

  • TheHake

    Welcome to Africa. Oh wait…

  • Auf Wiedersehen

No THAT’S funny! They know these were Camaros, right?

I live in the Domain in Austin TX and most likey the same thieves were hitting all luxury cars in the resident garage. A news reporter told me that they also got around 100 cars at a dealership in Georgetown. I have quite a few pics of cars sitting on blocks from their handy work. It amazes me they haven’t been caught yet.
