Being that the basic recipe for the G-Glass has remained more or less the same for decades, it kind of makes sense for Mercedes to stick with what’s been working.

We first caught a glimpse of the all-new 2018 G-Class about a month ago when a test mule wearing a wider version of the current car’s bod surfaced in Spain. Now, we’ve got the G-Wagen’s first video appearance, though still in test mule form. Two cars were present on location, along with a few Mercedes-Benz people putting them through their paces.

Based on what we already know, the 2018 G-Class will be a more comfortable car than the current model, with better connectivity and safety features, along with more economical engines – though improved fuel economy might have a lot to do with the G-Wagen possibly shedding as much as 400 kg (880 lbs).

Mercedes will probably be offering a wider range of engines for regular G-Class models, while saving their latest twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 unit for the range-topping AMG models.
