Europe’s Facelifted 2017 Lexus IS Range Bows In Paris

The facelifted 2017 Lexus IS range is celebrating its European debut at the Paris Auto Show, five months after the refreshed model was revealed online.

For the 2017 model year IS, Lexus opted to remain true to the outgoing model’s bold design, but have updated it on a few fronts. For starters, the front fascia has been revised and now incorporates updated headlights with a slightly different shape, a revised version of the Japanese marque’s customary spindle front grille as well as a different bumper with larger air intakes.

The new dark chrome front grille of the updated IS range also now incorporates functional brake ducts on either side.

Elsewhere, the exterior of the model has been updated with new 16-, 17- and 18-inch wheel designs as well as a reshaped character line stretching the length of the car. Changes at the rear include new taillights, rectangular and chrome-finished exhaust tips. In Europe, Deep Blue Mica and Graphite Black have been added to the exterior paint palette.

Inside, the facelifted range enjoys a larger multimedia display, now measuring 10.25-inches rather than seven. Refinements have also been made to the speedometer and tachometer while new cupholders have been installed. Select markets will also receive optional Nuance Black and Noble Brown color schemes.

In Europe, the range of engines go unchanged. That means the IS 300h will continue to utilize a 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine mated to an electric motor. On the European combined cycle, it returns 65.7 mpg UK and emits 97 g/km of CO2 emissions.

Alternatively, European buyers will be able to opt for the smaller 241 hp, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder coupled with the same eight-speed automatic transmission as the potent RC F.

Pricing details and delivery dates will be announced shortly.

Damn, what did they do to the exterior??!!
I like the materials used in the centre stack though, a nice alternative to polished black finish that attracts all the fingerprints.

    • Andrewthecarguy

Exterior?! It’s less drastic but still ugly 🙂

      • Zandit75

The rear doesn’t look changed, but the front looks horrible. I preferred last years model.

  • rover10

What an ugly front-end and it won’t go unnoticed. I admire bold styling, but this is just too vulgar for my tastes.

  • Vassilis

    The pre-facelift looked better 🙁

  • Six_Tymes

    The front is awful.

  • Josh

They did it! They made it look uglier. I really didn’t think it was possible.

  • DMJ

This is a stylistical mess. No wonder that no one buys this in Europe.

    • Ary Wisesa

Quite contrary, IS has reached one million units sales. And 20% of those sales are in Europe. Do the math. You can have whatever opinion, but one opinion clearly doesn’t represent the data and facts.

      • DMJ

Do you think that 200.000 Lexus IS delivered in Europe since 1999 is good? Even if you numbers are correct? Thats less than 12000 cars per year, in a market with more than 500 Million people. Porsche sells more Panameras than that.

        • Ary Wisesa

Then you might want to write: not many people buy this in Europe. There’s a clear difference between “no one” and “someone”. “No one” means “zero person”.

          • DMJ

If that’s your ridiculous argument, I can explain to you what an hyperbole is: “We use hyperbole /haɪˈpɜ:bəlɪ/ to exaggerate. We sometimes do this to emphasise something, to add humour or to gain attention. When we use hyperbole, we often make statements which are obviously untrue”.

          • Ary Wisesa

I don’t think speaking by data and fact is ridiculous. It shows you respect the truth and it speaks much about your integrity. People with high integrity are very careful to not instill lies and wrong facts even when they joke.

          • DMJ

Seriously, you have serious issues with text interpretation and grammar. And you speak with data without any kind of source and without refering the time frame. That, i’m sorry, is not integrity. Anyway, no matter how much you love Lexus IS, in Europe it’s a sales flop. It sells less that all the competitors FACT 1 (12.000 units/year is very poor, even if is true), it even sells less than luxury cars that cost twice as much FACT 2. And i’m sure that you are not european, or at least western european, because you simply dont see this car on the street FACT 3. It´s a product made for US and Japan, and for european Toyota executives that cannnot drive a Mercedes or BMW for obvious reasons.

          • Ary Wisesa

I just don’t understand how your logic works: “No wonder that NO ONE buys this in Europe”. What I see is you simply don’t understand simple logic and math, because you can’t distinguish the difference between “no one” (which mean zero person) and non-zero.

As for data, you can open this link:

Had you had a case in the law court and you brought your “exaggeration” instead of data and fact, you would certainly have lost the battle.

            Now about your “facts”:

            1. Fact 1: It sells less that all the competitors. (Btw: is it “less than” or “less that”? Tell me, since you accused me having serious issues with grammar, so I expect you can show better example, which one is correct? )

According to this data ( ) , Lexus IS sales (4187) is better than Infiniti Q50 (1957) and Alfa Romeo Giulia (3388) -> Your “fact” is False.

            2. Fact 2: it even sells less than luxury cars that cost twice as much. I agree with this. Based on previous data, Mercedes-Benz S Class sales (10501) is better than Lexus IS. -> Your fact is True.

            3. Fact 3: And i’m sure that you are not european, or at least western european, because you simply dont see this car on the street.

FYI: I’m Indonesian, I live in Jakarta and English is my fourth language. I visited my brother in Hague, Netherland, in 2015. We spent many days visiting Brussel, Amsterdam and Paris. I saw a number of Lexus IS on the road back then. However, I can’t say your “fact” (“you simply dont see this car on the street”) True or False, because we didn’t see the same street in the same time. So what I saw on the street could be different from what you saw. At the time you saw the street, it might be zero Lexus IS in your sight. On the other side, at the time I saw the street, I saw some of it. ->> This “fact” is relative to the spectator.

          • DMJ

You realy dont know what an hyperbole is, dont you?
You are so dishonest (or ignorant) about european car market, that you are comparing the sales numbers with a car from a brand (Infiniti Q50) that is not even sold in many European countries, and also with a car (Alfa Romeo Giulia) that was launched in June, without even a full year of production or a full range. Plus, you are ignoring that Lexus IS main opponents are BMW 3 Series, Mercedes C Class and Audi A4, with sales numbers that are enormous.
English is not also my native language, because I’m portuguese. You have been in only 3 countries from a continent that has more than 40 with different cultures. Is like me telling that I know the asian car market reality because I’ve been in Tokyo, Beijing and Hong Kong. The car market in Indonesia is different from India or Japan. So is the culture or the economy. I will not waste more time with you as you refuse to see that my point is that Lexus IS has very poor sales in Europe, and a design that is horrible for european taste.

          • Ary Wisesa

Hmmm. I really don’t understand your logic.

            1. At the first place, this is your statement: “No wonder that no one buys this in Europe.”

If your ever learn about math, you must have known about the “set theory” which is one of the branch of mathematical logic. “No one” means “zero person”. “‘No one’ buys this in Europe” means “‘Zero person buys this in Europe” or “Lexus sells ZERO Lexus IS in Europe”. If somebody comes up with the data that “just one (I repeat, just one!) person buys this in one (I repeat again, just one!) European country, then you claim of “no-one buys this in Europe” is plain FALSE.

            2. Related to point 1. “All” means, well…. “all'”.

Let’s say there is a statement: “Alex is shorter than ALL of his classmates”, it means nobody in Ales’s classmate is shorter than Alex. If you could just find one (I repeat, just one!) person who is shorter than Alex, then statement “Alex is shorter than ALL of his classmates” is no longer TRUE. Likewise, the statement “It sells less than all the competitors.” will be plain FALSE if somebody can bring the data that show one (I repeat, again, just one!) competitor which sells less.

            See? It’s a simple math.

            3. According to , Infiniti sells Q30 in Belgium
Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland, Serbia, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom. So if I compare the sales of Q30 to IS, it is eligible.

I show you the data ( ) . But your response is accusing me dishonest and ignorant just because I stick to the data. Look who is actually ignorant and dishonest?

I don’t buy exaggeration nor hyperbole. I only believe in fact and figures. If you want to point the poor sales of Lexus IS, all you need is showing simple and valid data, and not making exaggeration and hyperbole.

            Just for reminder:
            1. Fact: Lexus IS sales number in Europe: 4187.
            2. Your claim: “no one buys this in Europe.”

            Enough said.

  • fabri99

I used to like the IS, at least on the outside. But not anymore…

  • Dave H Cardona

Is Lexus hiring 7 year old kids to design the cars?

  • KidRed

    hahaha, that is soooooo ugly.

  • Enter Ranting

    No to all of it.

  • Liam Paul

I came in to say this was one ugly looking car but I see everyone has beat me to the punch. This is one pig that lipstick won’t be able to help !

  • Ron

Holy cow they made it look even worse!
