Has This NASCAR Racer Revealed The Design Of The 2018 Toyota Camry?

We may have just got our first look at the upcoming 2018 Toyota Camry thanks to NASCAR’s close tie-up with the automaker.

During a recent presentation with drivers, a Camry NASCAR was displayed on stage sporting a heavily-revised front fascia compared to the current car, revealing a much more aggressive and in-your-face design.

Of course, the styling adopted by NASCAR entrants slightly exaggerates those of the road cars they’re inspired by but even still, some significant differences are apparent. For starters, completely revised headlights are fitted with three L-shaped LED daytime running lights incorporated into each headlight cluster.

Additionally, the 2018 Camry’s grille is vastly different to the outgoing model and reminiscent in shape to the spindle grille used by Lexus. Additionally, a new set of air intakes draw further attention to the front-end.

Compared to the current model, the 2018 Camry will be drastically lighter thanks to its use of the company’s modular TNGA platform. Powertrain details are sketchy but a hybrid version is inevitable as is a four-cylinder aided by a turbocharger. A naturally-aspirated 3.5-liter V6 should continue to power high-end models.

anything hes to be better than the current car.

After decades of boring cars, Toyota is actually trying too hard. Dial it back a bit boys…

  • Duke Woolworth

Very angry looking. Bad trend. I disagree. Simple enough?

  • fabri99

Considering how ugly it looks, that’s likely to be it.

  • JL T0x

    That’s a really bad idea.
They used a Lexus front fascia/air dam on its Toyota racer. If they fascia makes it to production version Camrys, it’s de-value current & future Lexus product using that similar design.
See Honda/Acura exterior design gaffe. In short, Honda has been integrating exterior designs that are more similar to its Acura luxury brand vehicles. Doing so has significantly hurt the Acura brand perception for most of its lineup, sans the NSX.

Just make a solid, nicely styled, honest car. Nearly everything Toyota/Lexus builds lately is just Ambien capped with messy plastic on each end.

So then you could blurb how boring their designs are again.

Looks good, but to Lexus like

Toyota exec: we need to make it stand out in the market. It must read “Toyota”.
Toyota designer: Slap it with some ugly.
    Toyota exec: Done.

  • man

That’s just the Lexus ES front end.

  • Honda NSX-R

Looks the same as the 2007 Camry
