New Audi S5 Takes On Merc C43 AMG & Camaro SS In 1/4 Mile Drag Race

Between the new Audi S5 Coupe and the Mercedes-AMG C43 Coupe, which one do you reckon is most likely to beat the more powerful Camaro SS in a 1/4 mile sprint?

While the answer to that question might not be as obvious as one would think, make no mistake about it, this is still a very close/competitive race.

So then, is it safe to assume the Camaro SS is the favorite here? On paper, yes it is. The Chevy features a massive 6.2-liter V8 engine, capable of putting down no fewer than 455 HP and 455 lb-ft (616 Nm) of torque. In US-terms, this means 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in 4 seconds flat.

In the European corner, the Mercedes C43 Coupe comes with a twin-turbo V6, boasting 362 HP (367 PS) and 383 lb-ft (520 Nm). In a straight line, it should get to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds and 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.7.

As for Audi‘s brand-new S5 Coupe, rated at 354 PS (the least powerful car here), it will still hit 100 km/h just as quickly as the C 43, though some type of separation should take place afterwards since it’s also a little bit down on torque (20 less Nm) compared to the Merc.

So then which one is first to cover a 1/4 mile? You know what to do to find out.

  • Rick Alexander

Well I gotta admit, I thought the Merc was gonna take that one. Hats off to GM, for building a car that can still handle its business, against cars costing thousands of dollars more. Or in this case, Euros more.

    • Merc1

It was a given who would win, not sure why you’re surprised. Look at the power on these cars. They aren’t even competitors, really not impressive by GM. Sure it has more power, but it’s cheap as shite inside and out vs the Germans.

      • WTF

The Merc costs as much as a ZL1 when Mercedes can make a car that performs like the Camaro at its price and without the shit box interior of a CLA Ill be impressed

        • Merc1

Shitbox interior? You clearly got the Camaro and the C mixed up. You get better performance in the Camaro for the price because it has a SHITBOX interior you fool.

          • WTF

please stop crying lol your flaming ass can call me whatever you want BUT EXPERTS SAY THE CLA HAS A SHITBOX interior its a horrendous car at the price of the Camaro thats what youre going to get. For those stupid enough to not understand logic……both the S5 and C class cost nearly 20 grand more than a Camaro which is ZL1 prices when equipped the same you pathetic waste of space that know nothing of cars can comment all you want the bottomline they lost…….The Zl1 would compete with the C63 and RS5 based on how the lineup is setup it is the top model….you all are truely pathetic….how embarrassed you must feel…… the idiot talking engines because his precious pathetic cars lost (truely pathetic) the Camaros lineup is setup similar to BMW 1. base 4 320i, 2. v6 328i 3. ss v8 340i, 4. ZL1 M4…….so make excuses all you want but both the S5 and C class have performance models that were outclassed bottomline

        • Kagiso Mutlaneng

Again with COST being a measurement of direct competition!!!! Look at the bloody engines you imbecile!

OFCOURSE a Mercedes or Audi are going to cost more, they are Premium Luxury Coupes while the Chevy Camaro is a performance Pony/Muscle Car. LOL American arrogance much?!?!

          • Enter Ranting

The title to this article should have been “Euro Fanboys get Butt-hurt by Chevy.”

          • Ben

Except the Chevy is now broken down; guys just speed in a straight line with less than 0.3 seconds who really cares; can’t do that on the road; Chevy is nowhere near the other 2 for handling, class, and much more. Just saying…Ben

      • Methix ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Of course its cheap as shite who said the camaro is a luxury coupe

  • cooper

Who cares that the Camaro is a little faster. You have to be seen driving a Camaro.

  • U8INIT

Why no Q60 Red Sport?! :/

    • Matt

Drag strip wasn’t wide enough, obviously.

    • WTF

      out classed

    • Bash

exactly, that would be a better alternative to the Camaro… even though it won

  • Skip

Like, no surprise? Bad news for Camaro is a simple chip upgrade to the S5 (and I assume Merc) will be a big reversal

  • Kagiso Mutlaneng

LOL well that was useless. Pound for pound shouldn’t the Chevy go against the C63 Coupe and planned new RS5? What was the point of this exercise?

    • WTF

pound for pound??? irrelevant reference lol whats with the idiot bloggers. The C63, and RS5 would go against the ZL1 they should both be sub 4 second cars at this point…..the CTSV coupe competed with both of those cars previously why would the regular SS compete with $85000 to $100,000 cars????? oh right because youre an idiot

      • Bash

you have a point 😀 lol

      • Kagiso Mutlaneng

Sure, compare vehicles JUST based on pricing and not other elements like engine sizes, vehicle categories, clear direct competition etc etc.

If you had any common sense or knew how Mercedes rebadged some of their cars most recently you wouldn’t be name calling, looking like an idiot RN.

        C43 (re-badged C450) Entry level “AMG”
        C63 (“true” AMG)
        C63 (“more potent” AMG)
Brabus C63 (641 HP AMG conversion)

        The Chevrolet above uses a 6.2 V8 with 455 HP vs 2 3.0 V6’s with +-362 HP when the C63 is it’s direct equivalent (469HP 4.0 V8, the old RS5 is a 444HP 4.0 V8) and the C63S (503HP 4.0 V8) is the ZL1’s direct equivalent.

For someone who came out all aggro with WTF as your username, calling out models like a know it all, you sure dunno how Mercedes or Audi (or most European cars) categorize their models do you?

And you call others “idiot bloggers”! LOL but go on…

    • Bash

      true … its useless… lol,

  • BBWI

I would have liked to see the M2 and for the hell of it the 718 (S) added to this lineup. And since you added the Camaro should you not add the Mustang? And for good measure the Stingray? Playoff style

  • Steve

Dollar for dollar, I would happily take a low mileage used S5 over a brand new Comaro any day. It is easily best looking of the three, it holds its own from 0-60 and you can’t put a price on how awesome quattro is for anyone who must deal with winter driving. A Camaro might as well be a Vette….a summer only toy.
