While hybrids aren’t really anything more than a stepping stone to full electric powertrains, the world’s leading marques continue to invest heavily in hybrid technology, bringing together old-world combustion power with advanced electric and battery systems.

Among performance car brands, Porsche is arguably leading the pack with its hybrid models, as part of the company’s E-Performance range. As it stands, both the popular Cayenne SUV and Panamera sedan are offered with hybrid powertrains and soon, the 911 and Macan will be offered with electrical assistance as well.

Helping to drive the German firm’s development of hybrid power are the 918 Spyder and the 919 endurance racer and as this new promo from Porsche reveals, their hybrid technologies boost performance, helping to make hybrid vehicles fun.

In the coming years, the automaker will ramp up the development of all-electric powertrains, in preparation for the launch of the Mission-E by the end of the decade. As Porsche’s first electric production vehicle, it has the potential to be the sportiest car of its kind and should give the Tesla Model S a run for its money.

Although the long-term future of electric vehicles from Porsche remains secret, there’s a possibility a smaller Mission-E variant could see the light of day. The iconic 911 could also receive power solely from electric motors in the future.
