BMW‘s upcoming X7 SUV isn’t set to hit the production line until 2019 and already there’s talk about a possible M-badged variant.

BMW Blog claims that the German marque is actively investigating a business case for the X7 M and whether it makes sense to put such a model into the increasingly-competitive performance SUV market.

Of course, BMW’s M division has experience with such models, most notably with the rather ridiculous X5 M and X6 M. A potential X7 M however would be on a different level and could conceivably rival the Bentley Bentayga and Mercedes-AMG GLS 63.

It is reported that ‘run-of-the-mill’ X7 models will be even more luxurious than the current 7-Series and come with seven seats as standard. Interestingly, there’s a possibility that a four-seat version could be made available, offering passengers the finest levels of comfort and space afforded by any BMW model.

Considering the model’s size and weight, BMW will offer it with a number of powerful six- and eight-cylinder engines, including the updated twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 being developed for the new M5, pumping out in excess of 600 hp. A V12 may also be offered.
