SUVs and crossovers currently hold 40 percent of the Russian car market, and since the Lada XRay is in top 10 most popular among buyers in this class, the automaker has decided to give it a technical boost.

Said to make it more capable on the off-road, the vehicle has received a function that allows drivers to deactivate the electronic assistants, such as the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Traction Control System (TCS), offered as a basic equipment on all grades.

These can be turned off at the touch of a button, but if the driver keeps his/her right foot down and the needle eventually goes beyond 50 km/h (31 mph), then the systems will be automatically activated.

Part of the updates list for the crossover that has 195 mm of ground clearance is a new set of 17-inch two-tone wheels, included in the Prestige Package, which also adds rear wheel arches felt guard said to improve acoustics, tinted rear windows, rearview camera, audio system with 6 speakers and a navigation system.

The first units of the Lada XRay that feature the new function were shipped to dealers across the Russian car market from the end of September.
