It has been known for quite some time that Audi was planning to introduce the laser light technology to the United States, but couldn’t do so due to the NHTSA. Until now, that is.

Limited to the 2017 R8 V10 Plus Exclusive Edition, the laser high beam module supplements the standard full LED headlights of the supercar and features a module in each headlamp that contains four high-intensity laser diodes. The system uses a phosphor converter that transforms the beam into a bright and pure white light that becomes active at speeds of over 40 mph (64 km/h).

Besides its advanced headlight system, the special edition R8, which is limited to just 25 units, features an exclusive Quantum Gray paint, carbon fiber sideblade with Solar Orange stripe, and 20-inch wheels, joined by the carbon fiber diffuser, front lip spoiler, side mirror casings and fixed rear wing.

Inside, it sports the Full Leather package in Black/Signal orange signed by Audi Exclusive and adds a special steering wheel, illuminated door sills with the ‘One of 25’ lettering, Alcantara headliner and different floor mats.

Prices kick off from $229,200, excluding the $1,250 destination charge, and it will be on display at the 2016 LA Auto Show in a couple of weeks.
