Some people cannot do without a V12, and this is BMW‘s bet when it comes to pricing the M760i xDrive at $16,800 more over the latest Alpina B7.

Displayed at the 2016 LA Auto Show, where it is waiting to stun visitors and, why not, score a few reservations, it carries a twin-turbo V12 that pushes 600 horsepower and 590 pound-feet (800 Nm) of torque to all four corners through an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The M-badged car that takes on the Mercedes-AMG S63 and Audi S8 has the exact same output as the Alpina B7, which uses a 4.4-liter V8 rather than a muscular 6.6-liter lump. The tuned Bimmer also costs less and comes with Alpina-specific visual upgrades, exclusive wheels, high-performance braking system, bespoke paints and a wide range of standard equipment inside, from the high-end Nappa leather to the ceramic inserts, and from soft-close doors to the latest BMW infotainment.

Some might say that the Alpina is actually the better choice, since it’s capable of exactly the same performance as the pricier M760i xDrive, but one has to be a fan of these upgrades in order to drop a six-figure sum on one. Are you?
