Volkswagen hasn’t shown any interest in taking the current Golf Cabriolet and switching it to the MQB platform, as the car is still an Mk6 under the skin.

Having established that this happening has as much chances as Volkswagen buying back every car fitted with a cheating emissions device in Europe for a satisfactory price, we can move over to Fantasy Land, with X-Tomi‘s rendering, which gives us a picture of what could have been a modern drop-top Golf.

Building upon its facelifted hatch sibling that was unveiled earlier this week, the vehicle sports an entirely new front fascia, full LED headlights with incorporated DLRs, a reworked bumper, new shoes and a foldable soft top.

The real-life facelifted Golf also benefits from new semi-autonomous functions, gesture control, infotainment systems, and, to wrap it all up, a new 1.5-liter TSI gasoline engine that is capable of shutting down two of its four cylinders to save fuel.
