Someone Crashed A Bugatti Chiron Into A Ditch [Updated]

Could this be the first recorded crash of the Bugatti or is it another case of digital forgery? We’re all – or at least we should – be aware of fake news on the internet and especially on Facebook where this picture was posted on the GTBoard page, so we can’t and won’t rule out that possibility just yet.

But there’s also a chance it’s real.

Before dropping the curtains on the Chiron, Bugatti had to make sure that it’s safer than its iconic predecessor, the Veyron. For that to happen, the Molsheim-based car company needed to test several examples for science, which is what we might be looking at here.

Despite the potato-quality photo, there seems to be some damage to the hypercar’s front end, with a good chunk of its bodywork hanging under the wheels. Being towed away signals that its injuries are more than skin deep, as some of its mechanical components were affected.

This story is definitely worth digging into, so we’ll come back with an update if any reliable info pops up, but until then, what do you think happened?

Update: Bugatti spokeswoman Manuela Höhne confirmed the incident to German magazine BILD: “The driver was unfortunately a little inattentive, which is why the car landed in the road ditch. Fortunately nobody was hurt. “

Thanks to Erico for the update!

Is that not the Bugatti offices in the background?

If so, then it’s probably just a prototype being scrapped (hence the covers).

the Q is why they tow it like that

I guess they can’t afford a decent VW Crafter-based hauler.

Has to be fake, as you wouldn’t tow an awd car like that.

Perhaps it was a tester, and it was going to the crusher anyway?
