Mercedes AMG has a comprehensive line-up of powerful, competent models, but which one of them is the fastest?

Speed, brute force, and tire shredding capabilities are just some of the things that come to mind when AMG gets in on the action. Merc’s superfast brand is the pinnacle of pure performance (and fun), offering a variety of models, for any taste (or pocket), in its line-up.

The smallest of the lot is the A45 AMG, while the gargantuan S-Class Coupe, powered by a 6.0-litre, bi-turbo V12, is the stuff of which posh dreams are made of. But that doesn’t mean the hatchback can’t hold its own against its bigger counterparts, especially as the 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo that powers it develops an outstanding 375 hp,

In fact, just to see how the AMG siblings compare, Carwow decided to pit them against each other in a quarter-mile drag race. The cars assembled are variated, and some of the car maker’s most prolific models, including the C 63, AMG GT, GLE 63, and even the 3.0-litre V6-powered SLC43.

The result is surprising, to say the least, mainly because it shows how much difference the four-wheel-drive system makes. Yes, the AMG GT was the fastest (as expected), but while the rear-wheel-drive cars struggled off the line, the AWD ones had no problem whatsoever. That explains why the A45 was faster than the C63.
