Up Close With The One-Off Mercedes S600 Royale

There are few cars which have stumped the internet quite like the one-off Mercedes S600 Royale.

Images of the vehicle first emerged late last year on the Facebook page of Galpin Auto Sports but were swiftly taken down. Since being first seen in California, it has been spotted in Monaco and was recently captured up close by YouTuber and automotive photographer effspot.

The 5-minute long clip below gives us our most detailed view of the S600 Royale to date and shows off the impressive craftsmanship which has gone into creating it. Among its most eye-opening design elements are the headlights and taillights from the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, side grills similar to the SLR and an overall shape harking back to classic W111 and W112 S-Class models.

Despite how impressive the model is, no coachbuilder or designer has come forward to say that they created it. Initially, some speculated that Henrik Fisker penned the S600 Royale but he has since denied such reports. Others say that Mercedes tuner Carlsson created it for a member of the Saudi royal family.

What is known is that it is based around a 2014 Mercedes-Benz S550 as evidenced by its VIN number and the unchanged interior.

I think it looks ugly, but to each their own I guess.

    • Robert

No you’re right, its ugly. 🙂 Mainly because you can tell it’s a parts-bin creation.

  • Zed68

    What an awful thing !!!

  • Zandit75

    Money does not buy taste

    • BGM

It’s like the rich are daring the peasants to rise up and kill them all. When you purposefully pay a lot of money to create something this ugly you’re kind of asking for it.

      • Robert

        LOL

  • ME
  • thunder bolt

    Very elegant looking car

  • Rick Alexander

For those who think this is ugly, you clearly miss the point, nor can appreciate the attention to detail. The craftsmanship looks to be top shelf. The car that it pays homage to (Mercedes 600), wasn’t a looker either. However, if the 600 were re-imagined, as a current offering, it’d probably look very close to this. My money is on Galpin as the creator, as they are known for their quality metal work, and one off creations.

So people are not allowed to have opinions? They can appreciate all they want what it represents, or the other points you said. At the end of the day, if they don’t like it, that’s fine. Don’t be that guy.

      • Robert

        Well said

      • Rick Alexander

Where did I write that people can’t have opinions? Gimme a break Tumbi. I bet you’re “that guy” who’s quick to judge, and sloooow to create. Opinions are healthy, and they are what drive design and innovation. However, you don’t get a pass just because YOU or anyone else thinks something is ugly, or gorgeous for that matter. Why is something unattractive? What is it that makes something appealing? It’s easy to exhalt or debase something. How is either view constructive, without substance? In the end, your opinion is nothing more than internet banter. It’s cool to hate on, or critique another persons creation, with a meritless opinion. I’m not a fan of this particular design. But I definitely see the effort to create something unique. Moving on.

        • Tumbi Mtika

TL, but I still read anyways. You sound even more self righteous than in your last comment, but I’ll ignore that, and that other low blow. I’ll concede it is easy to say something is ugly, but if someone, whether written or not, can explain why they think a certain way. They have nothing to prove to you(which goes back to the self-righteous comment). And you have nothing to prove to me. So why are you doing this? Because you could have left a comment saying how you feel about this and moved on. End of story.

TL;DR: What do you have to prove? What do the people who don’t like this have to prove to you?You can post a comment without being smug about it. Move on.

Also, if you read my individual comment, you would actually know how I feel about this. I don’t hate your opinion, and I don’t personally hate you, but I feel you are going in the wrong direction expressing your opinion.

I love the OLD Style grill. Brought a lot of memories to me.

    • Six Thousand Times

You can still grill today, tastes just as good as you remember.

      • Jay

The grille brings back some good memories too.

  • Kash

Like others have said, this isn’t so much about an overall product/appearance but instead it’s about the craftsmanship and details and dedication to the build quality and what’s even more impressive was how this started out as a regular S550. This was easily a 6 month project if not longer.

  • ediotsavant

Looks like an updated Kia Amanti.

    • Bash

said the man that his first part of his nickname reads as idiot. lol

      sorry

      • ediotsavant

Ediot. Not idiot! What are you? An idiot? Learn to read.

        • Bash

          🙂 chill!

  • pcurve

    Ooh Pullman!

  • Six_Tymes

    ugly

  • Erzhik

In terms of modifications, this is one hell of a clean job.

  • Six Thousand Times

2005 called; they want their pastiche-retro back.

  • Tumbi Mtika

Not really my thing, but I can appreciate this to an extent.

  • benT

I think it looks great. Elegance is clear and present.

  • Kevin Insan

    looks cheap

  • Bash

I just don’t like the logo…but this thing is amazing

  • Why would anyone admit to have any connection with this unholy use of various cool Mercedes parts?

  • f1300

Retro at ist best! This car seems to be very well done. You might discuss whether ist “pretty” or not. But you can’t say that it’s not a fine Piece of craftsmanship. It just looks like an S-Class Mercedes out of an alternate reality. A thumbs up from me!

  • Stephen Baxter

Love the idea, hate the execution. The work isn’t bad and i can see what they were trying to do. So unbalanced, The rear i think is the success(ish?) Its a more moderate approach to the retro style than the front, and I think the lights off the new E coupe would look good with its square w112/w126 style. The front is a mess. Some vertical stack lights, a wider slightly shorter grill, and the black under the grill would do wonders for the front. But those hood vents, heavy hand with the chrome, and crap behind the front wheels are just horrible 🙂

  • metzh

i think that it was one of mitsuoka models, but i didn’t found it on mitsuoka’s website lol:

  • salamOOn

ok, forget the lights or the grill, but what about that c-pillar….?!!

  • RJ Scott

    VIN number? Really?

  • I’m fine with my stock Phantom.

  • roy

where is this place….. also i would rather look at the porsche boxter or that rs7 or that m4 rather than this shit

  • Bob White

Usually only the Chinese have this bad a taste to create this mish mash of parts. That’s not styling.

  • TrevP

I don’t mind that they used SLS head lights and tail lights….I do mind that the rear of the vehicle doesnt’ slope well into the body work at all.

  • Sjaak

    you must like chrome ….

  • antbee

I think it is a beautifully crafted automobile. I love the use of the old-fashioned W-era S class grille and wheels, combined with the newness of the SLS AMG’s head and tail lights. Very super-wealthy looking. It’s funny that the woman in the back of the car, darkened the rear windows on them while they were filming… LOL!

  • Ameer Hassan Tajaldeen

    fantastic

  • Big Black Duck

The car has very good design elements…but because of its short length it s not translating as well…this design would look good on something that has similar length of a limo..

  • Wow…Retro and Futro all in the same design language…very appealing look that changes from whatever angle you view the car…it definitely makes you do a double-take…conclusion…I love it!!!

  • kkk

thats how should normal one look like…. lol i like the grill 😀 very interesting…..

  • Amir Asr

    ugly!!

  • Mark Wheeler

    maginfique’

  • Christopher Sansom

    CP

  • kimbentsen

Second most beautiful car ever. First is the original S600 Pullman from the sixties.

  • William P

    how much?

  • Blade t

    Royale wit cheese….

  • Dexterbarnes+MinoreeTee =GAYYY

Ummm Mercedes, WTF is going on here? Please don’t do this. You guys are too superior to make it like this. At least do like a Maybach inspired S600. Thanks.
