Which One Sounds Better, The Jaguar F-Type SVR Or Corvette Z06?

Despite ever-tightening fuel efficiency and emissions standards, large displacement and big power V8 engines continue to be used by some of the market’s most exciting automobiles, two of which are featured here.

Hailing from different sides of the Atlantic we have the Jaguar F-Type SVR in one corner and the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 in the other.

The British brute has a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 while the American animal has a slightly larger 6.2-liter supercharged V8. While the engines have the same number of cylinders, this sound battle between the pair perfectly demonstrates how different the two sound.

The burbling tone of the Jaguar really sounds like no other V8 in the industry and has become synonymous for its crackles, pops and bangs on the overrun. By comparison, the Z06 has that characteristic Corvette tone which sounds like roaring thunder in the midst of a ferocious storm.

Which one do you prefer?

    I like the Jag.

  • An Existing Person

Even a deaf person could hear how great the F-Type sounds.

  • TheBelltower

I took an F-type for a test drive while waiting for my car to be serviced, and it sounds amazing. But I don’t think I would want to hear all of that racket all of the time when extracting the most performance out of that 8cyl. I know people like the crackles, but to me it just sounds like a poorly tuned engine. I haven’t driven the new Corvette. In the video it just sounds smoother and sexier to me.

  • Six_Tymes

The Vette, but only in the higher rpm range

  • pcurve

Hard to compare because I like them both.

Corvette sounds like they used precision instruments to tune the exhaust.

Jag sounds like they did bunch of sketches and went straight to production.

(I don’t know anything about exhaust tuning, so it might actually be the opposite. lol…)

  • bob

    Vette

  • john1168

The Jag sounds great but in this video the Vette sounds better.

  • Belthronding Tinuviel

i really love jag f type, but the thing is that nothing can beat an american v8 sound.

  • eb110americana

Most V8 F-Types I’ve heard sound ripping and unrestrained in the best possible way. If there is one critique I could give, its that occasionally all of those pops sound engineered (back) in, rather than authentic.

However, in this video, the Jag sounds annoyingly full of pops. It really is not a great example. The Corvette sounds to have surprisingly small lungs at startup, but once the exhaust flaps open (presumably) and the revs climb, it sounds magnificent. There’s even enough ripping blat to make you forget about the Jaguar. In this test, the Corvette takes it, hands down.

  • Bash

the recorded sounds/video doesn’t give the jag its justice.. I think in real life it sounds better

  • Benjamin B.

    Jaguar

  • Vassilis

    The Z06

  • KidRed

60% of the ‘vette’s rear-end is plastic. Bah.

  • Subi-Rubicon1

By far the Corvette has the better sound to my ears.

  • psiqtas

The vette has characteristic exhaust not in high rpms for some generations, but Jag seems to be a bit irritating…

  • Bob White

You just can’t beat the Mustang sourced DOHC 5.0 in the Jag even with the fake programmed backfires.

  • Fredy Chiteta

    Jaguar still stands.
